Meet Janey Tate of Tate Media Enterprises in North Miami-Dade County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janey Tate.

Janey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began Hy-Lo News in 2015 as a Facebook-based blog. It has been my dream and mission to own a media company that delivers news and content to the Black community and underserved communities. Today we are a growing media company that is South Florida’s only blog dedicated to Urban Millennials.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building my business has not been a smooth road. I have face the struggles of consistently creating content, building a following and keeping a steady flow of funding. However, as rocky as it has been, I would not change this experience for anything in the world. I do what I love for a living and I’m having fun building this business.

Tate Media Enterprises – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tate Media Enterprises is a South Florida based media company that produces the blog Hy-Lo News. Hy-Lo News is a hyper-local blog that covers news and information in South Florida and is catered to the Millennial audience. We are known for covering stories that mainstream media will not and we have a laid back tone to our style of content and news. We break the news and information down in a tone Millennials understand. What I am most proud of about my company is that we inform our community with information and when they thank us for doing so, I know I’m on the right path.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has been a few things. The first was Hy-Lo News being featured on legacy media outlets such as Hot 105, NBC Miami, and the Miami Times. I was also proud to be recognized by the Black Professional’s Network for Women’s History Month for the work I have done with my blog and informing the community. Most recently, I was proud of being recognized by Hennessy for Black History month for the work I did while co-hosting the Trappin Aint Dead podcast.
