Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamila Ross and Akino West.
Akino West (27) & Jamila Ross (26), first started their hospitality group by purchasing a four bedroom, two bathroom house and renting the space as a vacation rental property in Miami. Both have strong backgrounds in food and beverage within the U.S. and internationally. The purchase of their first Miami home transcended into the creation of The Copper Door Bed and Breakfast. We first toured the 22 guest room building about a year ago and to our amazement the 80-year-old building had such character that truly evoked the past life of a 50’s, 60’s Art Deco Miami and a community atmosphere.
The guest is experience is solidified by breakfast. The minialist yet comfortable stay paired with genuine hospitality is what makes The Copper Door B&B a Miami gem- the breakfast is what has guests coming back for more!
Has it been a smooth road?
Any structure with age brings along its typical series of challenges. Convincing the typical traveler to stay at a bed and breakfast oppose to a hotel has been our most anticipated challenge to date. We have the challenge of convincing avid hotel-goers that a low key intimidate stay is a road worth taking.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Copper Door B&B – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As a brand we are most proud to be the only true Bed and Breakfast concept in Miami, we live, eat, sleep here-just like our guests do! We are a Mom & Pop shop that look like a hint of luxury. We love the conversations that either take place at our 10-seat communal table or the one-on-one’s that take place between us and our guests. We love being ambassadors of this community and of this city- we give our guests the “live like a local” experience.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are happy to open our café concept -adjacent to the bed and breakfast. The café will be similar to our lobby in the sense that it will feel like “home”. We will finally have the opportunity to invite our guests and locals alike to join us for breakfast.
