Meet Jameka Lubin of Bellature Beauty Bar in West Palm Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameka Lubin.

Jameka, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for hair and beauty. The first time I perfected my own hair, I was only 11 years old. I had just mastered the “Fan Ponytail”, where your hair is placed into a sleek ponytail, the ends are combed straight out and then curled back lol. I felt accomplished so I began doing hair for family and friends. My first paid job wasn’t until I began working from home at 21. Also, at that time, I was working as a 911 dispatcher. I was seven years in as a dispatcher and realized that I no longer wanted to do that kind of work. I also knew with my schedule being so demanding that it would be nearly impossible for me to attend Cosmetology School.

However, I managed to complete my Cosmetology Program and graduated in October 2014. Shortly after, I started working in a local beauty supply store. I went in as a booth renter and quickly began to grow my clientele. I continued to work both jobs until life threw me my biggest lemon. I was wrongfully terminated from my dispatcher job. My Communications manager wasn’t ok with the idea of me starting a hair career outside of work. However, working both jobs for a year and a half made it an easy transition. After five years of booth renting, I opened my own salon. Bellature Beauty Bar (pronounced Bella-tour).

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy. I feel like anything worth having isn’t going to be easy. There has been many days that I’ve felt like giving up, felt like quitting, felt like just throwing in the towel. I went from booth renting and having to only worry about myself to now being responsible for several employees. I handle the hiring, the firing, the interviews, I have to guest speak at events. I’m responsible for inventory, opening and closing the shop, making custom units along with still having to service all of my clients, Yes, just me, lol. Everyone says why won’t you hire people? It sounds easy but that takes time as well. Nonetheless, every bit of it is worth it and you have to know and believe that God appointed you to handle such an amazing position.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bellature Beauty Bar story. Tell us more about the business.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the beauty industry will forever continue to evolve. Like many trends, they go out of style but eventually make their way back. That’s why my mission is simple, continue to grow with it. In the next few years, I plan like to own and operate my own franchised hair store that will include a hair salon and my own franchised hair school that will also incorporate a fully operating hair salon. My ultimate goal is to give back in every way. My school will be different in ways that teach students beyond the typical state board material but also teach the trendiest and newest techniques.
