Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Frias.
Hi Isabella, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Isabella Frias. I am 21 years old, and I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I am currently in my second year as a Media Production Intern for the Miami Heat and a Junior at Florida International University, majoring in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communications. My story started when I joined a Broadcasting/Journalism class in 7th grade and realized this was something I was very interested in. In my high school, Doral Academy, I joined a film program known as “Firebird TV,” where I created various videos and expanded my knowledge on Videography and Video Editing, and I stayed in that program all 4 years of high school. Once I graduated, I created my very own Instagram account (@shotsbyfrias) and a website where I post my work, behind-the-scenes action, and more. After this. I slowly started to gain clients in graduation pictures, sports photography/videography, weddings, and more. All of this has lead me to where I am today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the main struggles I experienced along my journey was not having a lot of business/clients. There were periods of time where my business was very stagnant and not busy. Which led me to doubt my work and if my business would be successful. I slowly realized this is very normal with freelancing businesses.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a freelance photographer, videographer, and video editor. I mostly specialize in graduation pictures, but I also do sports photography, weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, and more. At my current job position as a Media Production Intern with the Miami Heat, I specialize in helping film at various events and editing videos for the department. I am most proud of my highlight video I edited to be played on the jumbo Tron during Round 3 Game 5 of the White Hot Playoffs of 2022. It was a life-changing experience I will never forget. I am also proud of all the experience and knowledge I have gained throughout the years, as well as the progress I have accomplished with my freelancing business. I believe what sets me apart from others is my eagerness to learn, meet new people, and to create.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk-taking is something everyone should do every so often. My point of view on risk-taking is you will never know until you do it, so do it. One of the risks I took was applying for the Internship with the Miami Heat in 2021. On the job application, it specified on wanting Juniors/Seniors in college and at the time, I was a freshman going into my sophomore year. I decided to take the risk and apply. Out of the 300 applicants, 3 others and myself were the ones to be chosen for the Internship. I am the youngest person to be hired in the department and I was asked to come back again for the 2022-2023 season, as well. So long story short, take that risk!
