Meet Kathy Peterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Peterson.

Kathy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During college, my career began in the Music industry working for Hank Williams Jr and The Grammy Awards out of Nashville Tennessee. After graduation, I started out as a Production Assistant for a national TV show called PM Magazine, then later worked my way up to Producer. When the show was canceled, I started my own TV & video production company in 1983 (Kathy Peterson Productions, Inc.) which was very successful for 25 years.

Throughout my life, I was always designing something and when I won Designer of the Year thru the Craft & Hobby Association, I was asked by numerous manufacturers to make 100’s of national TV appearances on HGTV, PBS, Discovery Channel, CBS, ABC, NBC and as a design expert showing audiences how-to’s of designs. I was also published in 100’s of publications including Woman’s Day, Woman’s World, Redbook, Entrepreneur Magazine, USA Weekend, NY Daily News, etc. And I’ve written 5 books… one was a best seller for two years.

After taking care of my elderly parents and putting my work on hold for five years… I used my design skills as my therapy and somehow fell into designing weddings, events, photography workshops, studios, and styled sessions. Today, I’m also designing boho bridal (upcycled) fashions for my newest venture of hosting, producing and designing Styled Photo Sessions for photographers.

Has it been a smooth road?
I started out before cell phones and the internet, so communication was done by phone, mail or travel. It was never a struggle for me except juggling up to 13 high-end corporate clients at once with many video production deadlines. The money was amazing but the stress made me sick. That’s when I decided to throw myself in front of the camera and offer my design services.

Another struggle happened when my folks became ill, during one of my a 5 city media and speaking tours, I was on, plus, I had other TV appearances obligations, deadlines, etc. I took care of my folks for five years and after their death, I decided to work with brides and photographers designing events, etc. My very first styled shoot was featured on a series of three different NBC tv newscasts and the Palm Beach Post came out to interview me and I made the front page of their Accent section.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kathy Peterson Inspired Vintage Weddings story. Tell us more about it.
1. What I do:

I design and style sets for events, elopements, photography workshops, etc.

2. Most proud of a brand & creative:

Sharing my design expertise through my five books, media & speaking tours, and licensing my designs in the floral, furniture and creative industries and with millions of TV viewers.

3. I create original designs and have my own signature look. I do not create Pinterest knock offs… but rather create & design fresh new Boho Bridal & Boudoir looks and inspiration for photographers and clients seeking different looks and set designs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments: Being a national design expert & TV spokesperson for Krylon Spray paints and other national corporate clients as well as creating my own licensed design lines for home decor, fabric, floral, outdoor furniture and more!
