Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Brutus.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started out at 13 with being a Host on my Middle School Morning News show. I really strived to be that kid that just expressed himself in a fun, loving, goofy way. Going into high school, I started making videos with me and my friends on my iPhone because Vine, Instagram, and Twitter was really popular at the time and I was excited to try to get my 15 seconds of fame with my funny skit ideas. After going on bulls **** “High School Musical” audition at my technical school in my sophomore year, I realized I wanted to start acting. Not necessarily because of the “High School Musical” audition, but because my best friend and now close colleague was at another school across town killing it in the Theatre Department and invited me to his Spring Show at the end of my sophomore year. After seeing the show, I switched schools the next day. I was that serious to start something fresh and new that would challenge my natural charisma. After making the switch, I ended up winning multiple state-level awards at the Florida State Thespian Competition including Best Supporting Actor in the State of Florida. Near the end of my
Senior year, I was introduced to film due to my friend Kerby Collins walking into our Algebra 2 class excited about the film he was recently in. Me being ignorant, I didn’t think he was being serious. I assumed it was something unprofessional. When he showed me the trailer, I was literally shook. The quality of the trailer exposed me to a whole new world that I was eager to start learning about. Going into College, I was the Posterboy of Broward College/Student Life Videographer for the WHC Downtown Campus. That position taught me so much about Teambuilding and Uniformed Content that I was able to take on with me into the Creative Melting Pot of Miami. I took what I learned from multiple apprenticeships and freelancing and im happy for all the knowledge I’ve obtained. It’s now my job to share the information in the most entertaining fun way I can. Now, I am in the process of building two Media Companies with close colleagues that is literally my second family. I create content every day, and I have no intentions of slowing down.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every road has its ups and downs, but to be specific with my journey here are a couple of points that can describe it better:
-Financial Literacy
-Over Analyzation
-Self Confidence
-Responsibility
-Awareness
-Transparency
These are all things that have been obstacles/challenges in my life that I’m still working on till this day.
Tell us about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in?
I’m an Actor & Filmmaker. I specialize in unique cinematic camera angles and operations. I’m known mostly for my videos, I’m most proud of elevating with the group of people that I call my team (KUHNEKT). We hold each other accountable to excel individually so that we can depend on one another when going gets going! What sets us apart is that nobody can stop us. With the Raw Talent we have in each of our respective fields, were bound to make noise in the South Florida area. I truly believe the only person that can stop us is ourselves.
Is there something we can do as a city to improve the outlook for businesses like yours?
I feel like anywhere is a good place for a business like ours because we’re about delivering the culture to the community. Whether it’s creating content for specific events, highlighting talent in an interactive way, or throwing live events. I would recommend them to start here to be in the mix. Miami is one of the upcoming scenes for EVERYTHING. Atlanta is always in the discussion because of how much they work with each other. We have the RAW TALENT HANDS DOWN. Now, we all need those mentalities to be on elevating ourselves every day our we will get ourselves left behind. Our city can improve by having a solid Media Staple here in South Florida that sheds light on the talent we have here for example (QC, Lyrical Lemonade, The Breakfast Club), etc.
