Meet Illia Shymanchyk of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Illia Shymanchyk.

Hi Illia , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Illia Shymanchyk, though most people in music know me as ShyMan or Ilya Hype. Music has been part of my life for many years — my journey started back in the early 2000s, and over time it became much more than an interest. It became the way I express myself and connect with people.

Over the years, I’ve gone through many different stages: DJing, performing, organizing events, developing music projects, and working with artists. What always mattered to me was never just playing music or releasing tracks, but creating something around it — an atmosphere, an idea, and a real sense of community. I’ve always seen music as something bigger than entertainment. For me, it’s a way to bring people together and create a feeling that is hard to describe, but very real when it happens.

As time went on, I got deeper into production and started shaping my own sound and artistic identity. I’ve always been drawn to music with mood, depth, and character — music that leaves something behind and makes people feel something.

Moving to the United States became a new chapter and a real challenge for me. When you arrive in a new country, you have to rebuild a lot from the ground up — your network, your environment, your opportunities, and your place in the scene. But that also gave me a new sense of drive. In Miami, I founded Glitch at Mode Miami as a party and platform for people who connect with quality electronic music, strong energy, and a real sense of community.

Over time, it became important to me not only to grow as an artist, but also to support other musicians — helping emerging artists move forward, grow, and find their audience. I’ve always liked being part of something bigger than just my own path.

Today, I continue to write and release music, build new projects, and create an environment around me where music still feels real. For me, this has been a long road, and it’s still unfolding — with the same love for music that started it all.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I think for most people who truly live through music, it rarely is.

One of the biggest challenges has been realizing that music is almost never just about the music itself. From the outside, being an artist can look like it’s all about making tracks, performing, and living creatively. In reality, there is a lot of invisible work behind it, a lot of pressure, and many moments when you have to keep going even when the results are not immediate.

Another major challenge is the reality of the modern music industry itself. Today, it is not enough to simply make good music. You are expected to be a musician, content creator, marketer, manager, and constant online presence all at once. That can be exhausting, because it takes energy away from the very reason you started doing this in the first place — the music.

There have also been more personal struggles along the way — moments of doubt, emotional burnout, and the feeling that things were moving more slowly than I hoped. Especially when you invest so much of yourself into music and the results do not always come right away. Sometimes the hardest part is continuing to believe in your path, holding on to your identity, and not bending to everything the industry expects from you.

At the same time, those struggles taught me a lot. They made me more patient, more grounded, and more honest with myself. I learned that for me, this path is not only about chasing quick results, but about building something real step by step while staying true to myself and my love for music.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an artist, I’m first and foremost a musician, producer, and DJ, but my work has grown far beyond just my own releases and performances. What matters to me is not only making my own music, but also helping create the right environment around it — through a label, through working with artists, and through building projects that help good music reach the right audience.

One of the most important parts of my work today is developing the label. I genuinely enjoy discovering strong emerging artists, listening to their material, helping shape direction, supporting releases, and being part of their growth. I know how difficult the music industry can be, especially for people who are just starting out or trying to build their path independently. That’s why, for me, a label is not just a place to put out music — it’s a way to support talented musicians and help them move forward.

From a production standpoint, I’ve always been drawn to a more hands-on and tactile approach to making music. I like working not only inside the computer, but also with analog synthesizers, drum machines, and hardware in general. I love the process of shaping sound with my hands, where you’re not just picking a preset, but actually building the character of a track through texture, detail, and mood. For me, that makes the music feel more alive, more personal, and more real.

I pay a lot of attention to atmosphere, groove, detail, and the sense of space inside a track. It’s important to me that music is never just a random collection of sounds, but something with its own identity that creates a real feeling. That’s probably what interests me most as an artist — making music that people do not just hear, but actually feel.

What I’m most proud of is that over time I’ve been able to build a broader path in music for myself — not only as an artist writing and releasing my own work, but also as someone who helps other artists grow, supports new talent, and tries to contribute something real to the musical environment around me.

I think what sets me apart is the combination of those two sides: on one hand, a very personal and detail-driven approach to sound and production, and on the other, a genuine desire not to stay focused only on myself, but to build something bigger around music and the people who live through it.

What does success mean to you?
For me, success means staying true to yourself, doing what you genuinely love, and seeing that it connects with people. It’s not only about numbers or outside recognition. It’s about growth, freedom, respect for your own path, and the feeling that what you do truly means something.
