Herman, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2000. I started working in the medical field, for which I am grateful for giving me a firm foundation as a healer. I then shifted into the hospitality aspect by working in Spas like the Spa at Doral for a few years and was then offered an opportunity with The Boca Resort Waldorf Astoria from which I grew exponentially in different modalities and vast trainings.
I always paid attention to the missing factors in every Spa. I joined Lifetime Fitness, a sports club which I learned to combine the Spa aspect with my therapeutic skill and began creating my result driven therapies. I earned a reputation for healing and began working on celebrities and professional athletes which gave me the confidence to start my own practice.
I opened The Spa on the Grove in 2012 and for two years it was amazing then my dream grew. I knew that I wanted to create a Spa which had all ranges in pricing and a Spa which gave the opportunity to provide services a la carte as well as in communion. That’s is when Foot Haven Reflexology Bar & Spa was born and has been successful since 2014.
In 2017 I got my Real Estate License and have been focusing in the Palm Beach area with Bowen Realty.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In hospitality and in Florida there are always bumps in the road. Florida is seasonal and unfortunately it comes with hospitality territory. Our Spa has created a way to lessen off season with having affordable treatments you can receive all the time and not just on a special occasion.
Most of the Spas use Groupon and I as a therapist know the hard work that comes in our craft and training so I am proud to say we do not use Groupon and our clients appreciate that even more. We take all the bumps in the road as lessons and learn from them so the next year we are prepared and face any issues head on.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Foot Haven Reflexology Bar & Spa – what should we know?
I opened Foot Haven Reflexology Bar in 2014 in a little historic cottage in Delray Beach, just providing one service, Reflexology. It was a communal space setting providing the opportunity to receive a service together or alone for an affordable price. Reflexology treats the full body systems through the feet so it was an ideal service for what I wanted to achieve and it worked.
Our team, clients and demand grew so we expanded to a store front now offering all spa services from reflexology, massage, infrared salt sauna, radio frequency skin tightening services and skin care. One day you can pay $39 for a 55 min reflexology and another day you can indulge in a spa package. We are now a full service Spa offering much more.
