Today we’d like to introduce you to Helena Carmouze.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Helena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always gravitated towards the arts. My first love was actually drawing & painting. Which I still do on occasion. I took a film photography course in the later years of my college experience but didn’t fall in love with photography until late 2010. I had some portraits of myself taken in a time of my life where I did not feel so great about myself. The photos and the experience I had made me feel beautiful. I decided right then and there that I wanted other women to feel that way about themselves. By nature we are insecure and we are our own harshest critics. I wanted to change that perspective.
I picked up a camera and invited a few of my friends over for a girls day. And I was smitten. I had found a new passion. From there I focused on boudoir and pin-up styled portraits for a few years. Eventually, I started working with a friend second shooting weddings in my spare time. That is where I found my true love. After second shooting for three years, I decided to branch into weddings on my own. Now, I am working photography full time and I specialize in weddings and family portraits.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say early on I had a hard time building up my business and working a full-time job. As any career, it often takes time for things to take off, but my biggest challenge has been balanced. I am now a first-time mom, with an energetic, rambunctious little girl. Just being a mom and trying to run a business is all sorts of difficult. To make things more challenging, my husband is going to school full-time and so I am responsible for more than I’ve ever had to handle at once. Somehow, I am finding my way to balance. Luckily, I find myself in my art and am driven to succeed.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Provoke Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a destination wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer. I love photographing weddings. There is something special about being with a couple on one of the happiest days of their life. Sharing in the love of a wedding day fills my heart and I feel blessed to be part of it every single time.
I would say I am most proud of how much my business has grown and my work has improved over the last few years. As an artist, I am always striving for perfection and to make my next session better than my last. There is something profoundly satisfying knowing that you’ve created something and that others appreciate it.
There are many talented photographers in Miami. So it’s not enough to just take beautiful pictures. That’s why I make customer service one of my biggest priorities. I want my clients to feel like I’ve gone the extra mile to give them an exceptional experience. From day one, I’m working with wedding clients to make sure the day goes as smooth as possible.
And if something doesn’t go as planned (as is often the case with weddings) then I am there to help things get back on track. And my relationship with them doesn’t end when they receive their photos. I make an effort to establish a connection that will last well beyond the wedding day. I want people to feel like they have a photographer, and a friend, for life.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Miami is an amazing city. It truly is a paradise filled with natural beauty and wonderful people from a diversity of backgrounds. I love meeting new people and learning from them. And obviously what I like least is the traffic.
