Today we’d like to introduce you to Guillermo Ursini.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Guillermo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a sound mixer and audio editor for films, TV, advertising and radio from a little town named Posadas in the north of Argentina (South America).
I started as a DJ in 1990, then goes to the radio, editing digital audio, studied production and direction for radio and tv. In the year 2000, I started to record sound for films, documentaries, tv series, realities shows and discover my passion for this job. Working hard and growing over the years, improving my goals and being awarded. In 2017, I decided to take the next step, move to Miami to continue growing in my professional career, try new challenges and demonstrate to myself that I can do it best for great companies in the audiovisual industries.
Moved to Miami with my family was not easy, but so far a good decision, in this short time living here, I did a lot of jobs like sound mixer, recording audio for four short films, two reality show, lots of advertising, two documentaries, TV channels sound editing for large companies like Discovery Channel, Fox, Espn, Food Network and more.
One great surprise was the short film AGONIA (where I did sound recording) winner of 3 awards.
This new life in Miami is amazing, great jobs, great new friends, beaches, sun and a pair of dreams to convert true!
The way to count my history is by the social media, where all the time I post photos saying “office today” (filming at the beach, filming at great places).
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is a long way… sometimes, easy and sometimes hard, the hardest was the decision to move to the US, convince my wife and daughter and then find the way, in my case, improving my skills and demonstrate to be up of the average. For me, the process took 5 years to be ready, making networking with the audiovisual community of Miami, studying how the business work here, maybe the transition was smooth because of that, obviously, leave your parents, the dogs and a lots of friends in Argentina was very hard, but on the other hand, starting to live the dream is a great opportunity, demonstrate myself “I can do it”.
Obstacles, of course, the idiom, the food, the mixed culture, the new rules!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sound Mixer South – what should we know?
The work consists of sound recording on the field for films, TV shows, documentaries, advertising, web series and more. I have my own best quality sound gear, a very rare mix of black boxes, cables, antennas and microphones that people don’t understand too much. I specialized in putting mics on talents and actor, types of microphones on different locations, digital audio recorders, wireless transmitters and a lot of experience working in this environment together with camera and light crews to do a great final product. I think I am known for being a good person, with technical and artistic knowledge. What set me apart from the rest is the experience and the search for perfection.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To start you need to be a good person, helping others, then, never stop learning, teaching the new generations (I was teaching sound for 5 years), doing always the best you can, be disciplined, exercise and improve your skills, be persistent, be collaborative with creative process, and be happy and passionate with the things you do always. Of course, make grow relationships with people like you, promote and show others what you do. With time, you will see the results! Trust me!
