Meet Guillermo Bello of Dr. BE in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Guillermo Bello.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been an athlete all my life and have had the need for rehabilitation of an injury several times. While in college I was already implementing what I had gone through with friends and family. At which point I must admit it was my mother who identified I had a “nack” for this type of work.

While waiting to start chiropractic school I volunteered at a hospital in Venezuela for 6 months, where I had first-hand experience with many injuries and techniques. After graduating chiropractic school, my previous experience at the hospital gave me the insight to understand that the combination of chiropractic and PT would yield the best results. So I continued my studies and got a Masters in Sports Science and Rehabilitation.

Once done with all this schooling I worked a few years in multiple high volume clinics to get as much experience as possible before finally opening my own center 2 and a half years ago.

The last two years where definitely a challenge, but very fun. I started on my own with one therapy table in a 10 x 6 foot office and giving out my cell phone to patients so that they could make an appointment. Today things have changed. The office has grown quite a bit and I am happy to report we will be moving soon to bigger office with nine treatment tables and many new services, but I have to say that the most important marker of growth is the amazing team of 5 individuals whom, white-out, I could not operate this great venture.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While in hindsight, the reality is that the business has grown at a steady pace. There have definitely been struggles along the way. I still remember that my 4th and 5th week in practice I only had 4 appointments in total and they were all the same patient. I really questioned myself those weeks.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a chiropractic and physical therapy center. Where we specialize in rehabbing the human body. It does not matter if you are an athlete looking to get back to doing the sport you love, or if you are just having neck pain from prolonged hours of work at your computer. We work with a variety of condition from knee and shoulder surgery to helping people improve their posture. Our patients currently range from 4 months old to 83.

I truly believe that what sets us apart from the rest is the way we treat our patients, very quickly people feel very comfortable in the office. From the time you call to make your first appointment, you will understand that we care and that we are there because we want to be.

At this point, I think we are known for the ability to give relief to patients. it is amazing to have someone come to the office hurt, barely able to walk or stand straight and see them leave with a smile and feeling better within an hour.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to Miami when I was 14. I was the type of kid that would always ask why? and if the adult did not explain the reasons for this, well I would not listen very much. I was not the best student until a reached high school where I had better motivation and some goals.

I was always interested in sports and physical activity, I was not the Nintendo type. Still, as an adult, I always need to be working towards something. I remember when I was in 7th grade my father made me work at a pet shop for a few weeks during the summer, where I made friends with a guy who would sell me exotic animals, like snakes, scorpions, squirrels amongst many others which in turn I would take back to school and sell to my friends for a profit. Many parents and teachers had a problem with this.

He is an amazing doctor! He was the only one who could help me recover from my herniated disc when all other doctors wanted me to have surgery. I’ve known him for a couple years and I’m so happy to see how his practice has grown. 100% recommended.
