Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloribel Gonzalez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up with 12 sisters and being one of the youngest I was always fascinated watching them do their makeup and hair. At the age of 14, I went to a sweet 16 party and I was demanded to do the birthday girls eyebrows and makeup. I felt overwhelmed because I knew she was expecting a professional look. I was very surprised at the results and I never forgot that rewarding moment of being able to make someone look and feel more beautiful. After that, my interest kept increasing. Fast forward to 2004, I became a licensed Esthetician. After graduation, I immediately began to work in this location in Miami Shores and I absolutely loved it. The village and people were and still are wonderful and made me feel like I was at home. Three months later, the owner of the salon said she was ready to sell it after being there for 25 years, and she insisted I took on the position. I personally thought I was not ready, I had no knowledge in business, was a recent graduate, and had two young kids. However, I have always been a woman of faith so I took on the position and bought the salon. I went with the flow and dedicated my time to expand my knowledge in professionalism and management skills.
I kept participating in many classes regarding business, skincare, body treatments, makeup, waxing, and much more. This journey has been a blessing and I continue to expand my knowledge after 14 years of being the owner.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road since owning a business was completely new to me and was never expected. I had to grow personally and professionally. The biggest challenge was learning how to lead my team and how to get the right employees that align with my business values and have a great personality. With time, the right employees grew into place and I could not be happier.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the GG Salon and Spa story. Tell us more about the business.
GG’s is a full-service Salon and Spa with a great atmosphere. We are honored when clients tell us they feel as if they are part of the family right when they walk into the door and that the energy in our location is like no other. We do Hair, Skincare, Nails, Waxing, Makeup, Microblading, and Eyelash Extensions. I personally specialize in Eyebrow Shaping and Skin Care. My business grew word-by-mouth and thankfully people know me for having a great, loving, and trustworthy personality. It’s amazing to me that people travel as far as 2 hours to come do their eyebrows here! In addition, we offer professional Hair Care, Holistic Skin Care, and Organic Body Care products. What sets us apart from others is that we truly care about each of our customers. We take our time with everything, we listen, make honest recommendations and we never stop learning.
We continue to increase our knowledge and keep sharing. We have an extremely positive and well-established team and always work together to make each client satisfied and go above in beyond with our care.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am lucky to have such a loyal group of clients. Also, to have such a wonderful team including my daughter. Seeing her grow with me, helping the salon get better, and becoming a professional lady. Also, to be able to give back to the community in events and being part of the chamber. With happy clients and a team that is not only there to work but to be a family makes me feel extremely lucky.
