Today we’d like to introduce you to Frantzdy Alexandre.
Frantzdy, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, first foremost, my name is Frantzdy Alexandre and I am an Actor and Singer. I was born in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti. Raised in Homestead FL and now currently residing in New York. I guess you could say I was a very artistic kid growing up. My life was always surrounded in the arts in some way, shape or form. I think the first talent I realized I had was drawing. I loved sketching people, interior designing, and when I became more confident in my abilities, I started getting into car-body designing as well. I even went on to winning many awards that translated into having my arts showcased in local malls in Florida all throughout my grade school years.
As a kid you can imagine the joy and the confidence that brought into my life. But it didn’t end there, I later ended up discovering acting, and it was like nothing I had ever imagine before. It was the first time I ever truly loved something that wasn’t a person and instantly, I became remotely drawn to it. Opening up yourself to the world like that and allowing such vulnerability to speak truth. It was the most fascinating thing I had ever seen. Acting opened me up to new topics, ideas, issues, and different perspectives of the world. It gave me a sense of responsibility to shed light on stories that often, people don’t have the courage to embrace. Even though all the struggles of seeking opportunities, I felt absolutely privileged and honored that I was able to contribute society doing what I loved. The arts for me was more than just a place of belonging, but a way that I was best able to express myself while tending to the healing of others.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I can’t pinpoint a specific time in my life where anything felt like a smooth road. I have faced many obstacles from the start, and over time I’ve grown to truly appreciate each and every one of them. I’ve had a lot of doors closed on me and even more NO’s. For a while, I was even told my look wasn’t exactly favored in film and that I should consider a different career path. In a lot of cases, I was turned away before even getting a chance to prove myself. People did not understand my brand; I spent a couple of years trying to figure out what that meant and how I could beat that narrative. Even while all of this was happening, I never allowed anyone’s opinions of me to have more value than mine.
Thinking on it now, I can honestly tell you that my diligence and will to keep moving forward was probably my favorite quality about myself. Without it, I don’t think I would have gotten this far. No matter what obstacles I came across, I was constantly working on my craft day and night and decided I wasn’t going to let my circumstances get the best. In my mind, I was always one opportunity away from the next but the thoughts “What was it about me that people didn’t understand and how can I make that my strength?… That was a question I constantly asked myself on the daily. All the while, I continued to work tirelessly and kept fighting to accomplish my goals. When I finally got a better sense of who I was, not just personally but also what type of actor I wanted to be. It helped me understand my brand, my strengths and weakness but overall, how valuable I actually was.
Which then made me a lot stronger among most. Finding confidence and understanding in my differences gave me a huge edge because I realized there were no others like me and so I used it to my advantage. I went from booking absolutely nothing for years, to having several film releases years later as the leading man. I came to understand that you gotta fight for what you want. Understand that your dream depends on you, and a dream without a goal is nothing. You can’t give up no matter what. I try to wake up with that mindset every day and I truly understand now that this is just the beginning for me. You have to know what it is you want.
Seek guidance from the people you trust and know that growth will take you through paths that aren’t on the map. When that happens, it doesn’t mean you’re lost; it just means the universe is having a little more trust in you to find your way. So go through it, learn from it, and tell your story. Oh and don’t forget to always be kind to everyone because it just makes everyone’s day a little more worthwhile.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The goal is to work on my films and start pursuing television as well. There are so many great opportunities coming my way that I can’t really speak on at the moment and I am beyond excited to get started. I am constantly looking forward to growth and always looking for new ways to work on my weaknesses.
