Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Terry and Patrick Schmitt.
Fernando and Patrick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a young New Yorker from the Bronx, always interested in living in Miami. When the opportunity arised, I decided to stay and start a career in the Miami Hospitality Industry in Miami Beach working my way up from houseman to General of a couple of boutique hotels.
After 10 years in the industry, I decided to pursue a career the real estate industry as I thought my previous experience and people skills will help me excel in the field. In the beginning it wasn’t easy starting at the height of the housing bubble and surviving the downturn. Luckily, I was able to use my many years of sale and marketing and frame of thing to always adapt to the market or any situation thrown at you, so when sales slowed down I quickly adapted my business to focus of management of properties and rental which in turn lead to sales when market conditions was bettered.
We later opened my brokerage and started working with Level 7 Holding with Patrick Schmitt from Germany, which we then started Level 7 Real Estate USA, MIA REALTY WEALTH (in development) and our new venture Casa Mia Vacations our vacation rental business and brokerage. We provide luxury vacation rentals in the downtown area, management service and well as provide owner the opportunity to sell their condo no only as real estate but an income producing business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes of course, I think behind every success story there is a period in which molded an individual to whom they are today and drove them to be successful. Mine was the Real Estate bubble which complete wiped me out, left me working 9-5 jobs trying to feed my wife. I was going to completely give up on real estate, but then decided to reinvent myself and set myself and services apart from what is currently being offered in the industry.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our business is new in the area. Although we started with building a luxury brand in the vacations rental industry in Miami Casa Mia Vacations, which to be honest you can find just about anywhere in Miami which only a few people in a curtain income bracket can afford. We set our selves apart from the others by providing a luxury experience and service for anyone whom truly who wants to experience the Miami Lifestyle, which out of towners hear so much about, we even encourage even locals to experience our accommodation, you will be surprised as to how many people born and raised in Miami never get to experience their own city.
Our guests have access to our informative website, providing information on events, cultural experiences and much more. Our 24 hour concierge is available to help our guests to be sure they have a memorable stay in any one of our accommodations.
Casa Mia along with our brokerage Mia Realty also assist owners in managing their vacation rentals by not only offering a high level of service for their guests, but having owners realize the potential of their income property. Owner in this business model could not only sell the real estate at market value but also sell the profitable and reputable income producing business attached to it to the property, which they invested so much time and effort to build.
Level 7 Real Estate USA and it founders, Patrick Schmitt & Fernando Terry, not only would like to get in to the real estate game in Miami, like every other person the industry looking to close only high-profile sale, but our future plans and the reason why we decide to open up shop in Wynwood, was for the creative and free think environment Wynwood offers and attract, that out of the box thinking tend to forget or not express. We plan in the future create a co work space/Think Tank for selective new start up, whom not only will have a place to create and collaborate with our young entrepreneurs, but to also receive funding via our Level 7 holdings Company to make their dream to a reality.
What were you like growing up?
I Fernando Terry, grew up in a low-income family in the South Bronx and never knew much outside the 5 boroughs of NY. I knew every little of life outside of the violence and expectations of what other thought I will achieve. I just knew at an early a year after I watch the movie Wall Street, which had no clue of the plot at the time, but was also impressed by the street hustle and slick talk of Michael Douglas, and at the time I thought to myself I don’t see a difference of what he is doing that I don’t see every day in the Bronx. Funny thing is my first thought at the time being so young, was to first buy a suite to be successful and have people take me seriously, I didn’t buy that suite till I was 36, I maybe wore it 5 times.
I always had an interest in business, I always and still do have a love of Jiu Jitsu which I practice till this day. I feel it’s a true test of body and mind, try avoiding getting tapped out while your body is in pain and your mind is telling you to quit but your will is pushing you forward, trying to keep that focus is the same as business when you plan and fail, you must continue to stay focus and push forward.
