Meet Evenel Obas of Kings Of Valor in Broward County, Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evenel Obas.

Evenel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a fatherless child my motto was, “working hard builds character” and that “give a man a fish he will eat for a day and teach a man to fish he will eat for a lifetime”. I was born in Cap-Haitian, Haiti and later relocated to South Florida with my mother and younger brothers. And so my journey begins.

I was the first male to graduate high school in my family. I later graduated with an Associate in Sociology and a minor in Information Management Systems. There was a robust passion that resonated in my soul to mentor young men. I continued on to become a boys high school basketball coach and led a mentorship group at my church called “Brother to Brother”. I served as a tutor, mediator, and a counselor for young men.

Through my endeavors as a church leader and coach, I realized that the world was filled with young men that yearned the same kind of guidance that I lacked in my youth. And turned inspired me to create Kings of Valor. Kings of Valor serves as a positive environment where young men can have access to these role models and have guidance through the obstacles they may face as young men. My passion and focus are to empower young men to be active in their own success and get involved in their community.

Has it been a smooth road?
No. The road definitely was not an easy one. As the oldest child, I was left to become a role model and a father figure to my younger siblings. It became a major struggle to fill those shoes because I was never had a father to teach me how.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kings Of Valor – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Kings of Valor is an organization which is designed to help young men become the best version of themselves. We do this through the use of mentoring, workshops, one on one counseling etc.

As an organization, It may my heart proud that the young men that we cater to have made the decision to remain in school and further their education after high school, hence decreasing the dropout rate in our community.

What sets me apart from others is that I am able to relate to these young men and the people in my community which enables me to help them more.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about the city is the amount of diversity and culture that it has. As far as what I like least, is the lack of resources and organization to help our community.
