Meet Erik Lieux of Shamanic Tonic in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Lieux.

Erik, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
One of my happiest recurring childhood memories takes place in my parent’s kitchen. Every couple of days after dinner, my mom would agree to my request to help prepare what I called the “Secret Recipe.” Giddily moving around on a chair to reach the blender on the kitchen counter, I would start to name some of my favorite ingredients my mom would help gather for the special dessert blend. At that time, I loved combining various ice creams, colored sprinkles, cinnamon, chocolate chips…whatever else I could think of. Fast forward to present day, and that same passion lives on. Here I am in my certified clean kitchen, combining some of the world’s most nutritionally dense superfoods and energizing super herbs into delicious tonic beverages and powders that challenges the concept of what healthy tastes like. Shamanic Tonic is the embodiment of inspiration that started years ago, with the presence of deep intention and deep wisdom in every artisan formula.

A lot has evolved since those early days as a child, so has the ingredients and sophistication of preparation for our blends. We always start off with fresh clean spring water and build our organic, non-GMO, vegan tonics up from there. Whether you want something for digestive support like our Apple Jack with cold pressed ginger or want to experience a satiating creamy gourmet raw chocolate drink with herbs like reishi and maca or want some on the go energy with our amazing french pressed coffee or ceremonial grade matcha tea blends or detox with our super greens formula or go full on with our customizable 3 day detox program, we have you covered.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles are a good sign. It means your not playing it safe, and the comfort zone is what kills you. Many of the challenges or opportunities lay in how to educate people on what the beverages actually contain in them as many people don’t even know what an adaptogenic herb is (something that has a stress-reducing response and adapts to your bodies needs). Other challenges have been working with businesses who are health oriented but are mostly in the health and wellness market for profit. It has been shocking to see other business owners in this industry seeing it all primarily as a boom to make a buck instead of actually wanting to help people. Always make sure you have a heart in what you do, otherwise, you aren’t really doing anyone including yourself a decent amount of service.

Shamanic Tonic – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Shamanic Tonic is a plant powered artisan elixir and powder line that encourages vitality and wellness for the individual. You are what you eat, literally! The company was born from a transition from my background in Mental Health Counseling to more holistic Wellness Support. The beverage is one extension of Shamanic Tonic, and we also facilitate Raw Chocolate Ceremonies. A cacao ceremony entails drinking a specialty blend of raw chocolate (our ceremonial chocolate shot has ingredient list specified on our menus) with rituals and intentions. What to expect from the blend is a high dose of energy and well being, which encourages some movement and heightening of senses. For this reason, we pair the cacao with an ecstatic dance practice with live DJ and music. This is a very unique facet to our company in that we not only provide our clients amazing elixirs but also invite them into a deeper experience through the cacao and through the dance.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am very proud to see many people being positively impacted by imbibing the powder and tonic blends. It feels good when people say they have their wellness goals more easily met or some ailment improves or they have more sustainably sourced energy during their day. Best things ever for me and keeps me motivated to do more.
