Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Sanes.
Erica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is really rooted in my journey to follow my soul path. When I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I knew I had more internal work to do before I continued in the field of psychology. I also had a strong desire to take a more hand-on direct approach to healing. I explored a variety of options all over the US and kept coming back to plant medicine and acupuncture. I underwent tremendous growth during my time pursuing my first master’s degree in terms of knowledge but also connecting with my own intuition and tuning into the energy of others. I connected with myself and with diverse healing practices. I had the opportunity to travel and explore vibration and frequency to enhance my understanding of the physical and energetic bodies after my own profound healing experience using sound and color light. While I learned a number of ways to heal the physical, my main focus has always been on mental and emotional.
After a few years in practice, the universe started leading back to work in mental health. The majority of my clients are coming for mental/emotional imbalances and trauma healing. When I started to pursue my Master’s in Oriental Medicine, I had thought my educational journey would end there and yet there was a small part of me that knew that I would end up working in mental health. I just didn’t understand what that meant at the time. So, as my patient’s needs became deeper and more profound, so did my desire to expand my knowledge, and with it, my scope of practice. Once I made the decision to return to school, everything fell into place very quickly. I was accepted into FAU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and so I began my second master’s degree. I am set to graduate in May 2021 and am interning at The Delray Center for Healing while maintaining my private practice in Oriental Medicine and Sound & Color Healing. I hope to create unique treatment sessions where talk therapy can be integrated with acupuncture/acupressure, color light healing and sound healing to heal across the mind, body, and soul.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For a long time, I tried to force myself into space I wanted to fit… not necessarily spaces I was meant to fit. Once I surrendered and started listening, the road became seamless and smooth. Leading up to that transition, there was a lot of internal battles trying to be who others wanted me to be. Learning to embrace all facets of myself has been revolutionary and something I try to integrate into my sessions. Flow. Don’t force. I have tried to mirror and fit into practices that weren’t the right space for me to flow into and I’m thankful for every lesson. It was a lesson I had to learn more than once and now those lessons serve as beautiful reminders whenever I struggle to accept that some doors are not meant for me.
For a long time, I had a notion that I had to act or speak a certain way in order to be a successful practitioner…and letting go of that notion was powerful. If I can’t be authentic, then how could I expect my results to be? There was power in learning to cultivate intimacy with the things I didn’t like about myself, things that I told myself were wrong. I spent years doing this kind of shadow work with myself… I still do this work with myself and it’s really facilitated me in letting go of notions of who I should be in order to be who I actually am.
We’d love to hear more about Healing Era.
I work with the mind, body, and soul. Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Adjunctive therapies like vitamin and homeopathic injections, cupping, gua sha, e-stim. Nutritional counseling, Facial rejuvenation, and my favorite, Sound & Color Light Healing.
I believe it’s the sound and color light healing that sets me apart. I incorporate crystals, acupuncture, herbal tonics and more into the sound and color sessions. Patients are guided into meditation, then the frequency and vibration take over to facilitate the mind and body to begin shifting their patterns.
My sessions also include the use of a machine called a Bio-Well. BioWell is a revolutionary, non-intrusive way to measure the human energy field using a specialized camera and software system. When a scan is taken, a high-intensity electrical field stimulates the emission of photons and electrons from human skin; powerful imaging technology captures photon emissions given off by each finger. The images are then mapped to different organs and systems of the body, tapping into Chinese energy meridians. This machine is critical for tracking physical and energetic patterns and imbalances in the moment and over time. This is a service that spans several realms of healing: Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual.
Sound healing is the therapeutic use of sound, vibration, and frequency that can be felt on every level. Color Healing is the therapeutic use of full-spectrum colored lights, colored silks, and color glasses to induce a change in the body on a physical and energetic level. Color therapy is used to assist in the healing of mental, emotional, and physical issues and restore the whole person to health and harmony. Sound and color sessions have shown beneficial results in calming anxiety, balancing emotional reactivity, shifting depression, building emotional strength, improving sleep, clearing mental fog, improving the sense of well-being and relieving physical and emotional responses embedded by trauma. In some cases, responses are more physical, such as helping to shift digestive imbalances, soothe respiratory issues, and release physical tension.
How Sound Healing Works: The body has its own rhythmic patterns, and there is growing evidence that the rhythms of the heart, brain, and other organs enjoy special synchronicity. Illness and imbalanced emotional responses can arise when these inner rhythms are disturbed. Sound therapy sends vibration and frequency to where the body has fallen out of sync, essentially feeding the body its missing frequency so it can re-balance and re-align. Sound healing is felt on a physical level via the deep vibrations traveling through muscle, tissue, and organs, easing physical tension. It is beneficial for opening circulation and lymphatic flow and breaking down built-up lactic acid.
The tools implemented are also used to create overtones that allow the client to drift into a deeper relaxed state where brainwaves, heart rate, and respiratory rates all slow and allow for a more contemplative consciousness to awaken.
How Color Light Healing Works: Light is made up of tiny particles that travel in a wavelike formation at consistent speeds. Each wavelength of light communicates information through its steady stream of signal transmission; however, each wavelength’s respective color provides its own specific and unique information. This is how light and color are believed to be capable of influencing our human systems.
Light enters the body through the eyes and the skin and plays an important role in stimulating and supporting the immune system, the endocrine system, the pineal gland and other sectors of the brain and organs, essentially activating the delicate impulses regulated by these areas. These physical systems are involved in formulating our psychological and emotional responses, which is why the metabolization of light and the physiological response to light is so profound. “The universe is asking… Show me your new vibration. I will show you miracles.”
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family for all their support, deserve a lot of credit. My animal companions. My mentors. My therapist. So many people played a role in helping me to get where I am today and in propelling me forward. For reminding me of who I am even when I forget. Vanessa Cisneros is the first person who pulled back the curtain and showed me the amazing capabilities of sound and color light healing. She is my biggest cheerleader, travel companion, friend, and mentor. Her level of knowledge and insight sparks awe in me daily.
The Delray Center and it’s amazing staff are currently a powerhouse of teammates who facilitate my growth every day. I am so thankful for the opportunity to carry out my counseling internship there and for access to treatment approaches that I might not have uncovered otherwise.
Christal and Diane Dehay are two cheerleaders that I am thankful for on a daily basis. They were both so supportive when I was transitioning into solo private practice. They were constant reminders that I was capable of more than I knew at the time.
Rebecca Jarguin has been amazing! She introduced me to Eagle’s Haven, who provides a platform for me to offer sound and color light meditations to populations who would not have access otherwise.
Ananda Nelson has been a guiding light of insight and soul inspiration. I’m so thankful that our paths have crossed as she has been instrumental in my soul’s growth since I met her. She is an advocate, mentor, and goddess.
