Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Matheus.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eric. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
So far, it’s been almost six years since I’ve been producing music. I started at the age of 14, messing around with this software called fruity loops (fl studio) after coming across an ad that I saw while sitting at the library. What got me into music production was the type of music I was listening to at the time, like right before I started making music. I used to use my SoundCloud for gathering new music I found and put them into playlists that would start to gain attention over time. All this hidden talent I was coming across really inspired me to start creating my own music because I thought to myself, ok, if they can do it, why not me? So I gave that a shot and it’s probably been one of those decisions that have truly impacted my life. From the moment I first downloaded the fl studio demo till now where I got my very own setup and all that, I’ve learned a lot along the way. After messing around with the software itself and with the help of some individuals, I soon started to get the hang of it, which led me to getting the full version of FL Studio 12.
Once I got the full version, this is where I started to put out music on SoundCloud, trying to post consistently. Because I was posting consistently, this drew attention to my page and that’s when I started to gain some traction. I also learned how to network online through the SoundCloud DMS, so I’ve built a lot of dope relationships over the internet. Eventually, my music started to get on big YouTube channels such as bass nation and trap nation, which then really helped me with exposure and an increase in numbers. After a year or two just working on my SoundCloud and developing my brand, this producer Danny wolf reached out to me to work, so I took that opportunity and he helped me land some placements with Juice Wrld, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, and 6 dogs. I’ve also landed some placements myself with scarlxrd, $teven cannon, and Yung Bans. As of now, I’m currently out in Tallahassee because I go to school at Florida State University and I’m working with artists like apollo1027, Juslo, shumaq, tweet, Mark Richards, and 561 Renzo. All these artists I’m close with, so I’m happy with the position I’m in now but definitely want to strive for more and to be better by the day. I also got merch to drop soon in the summer, which is gonna go crazy, so I’m excited about that too.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I mean, the whole process itself I would say wasn’t entirely easy but at the same time, it’s doable for anybody. All it requires is the right mindset, dedication, motivation, and inspiration because it’s almost like a running a marathon, your constantly working to get where you want, trying to achieve new goals, making connections, there’s a lot to being a producer than just making the beats. Success definitely doesn’t happen overnight, so it will take time and it will take energy from you but it’s all worth the grind at the end of the day.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My name is Eric Matheus, but I go by “COSMIC” or “Cosmicbeats” as my alias. I’m a music producer/DJ/Engineer. I can make all kinds of genres when it comes to music but my signature genre that I stick to and that I’m known for would have to be trap/hip hop. I’m proud of how I’ve grown my brand till this day, like I know I haven’t reached my goal yet but it’s definitely something that I’m proud of and also serves as a proof of hard work and commitment. Probably what sets me apart from other producers and their styles is (from what I’ve been told multiple times) my low end or how I use/mix my 808s. Like if your gonna be listening to one of my tracks, I produced the low end will always be hitting and be standing out.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Definitely, my Juice Wrld placement, like I would’ve never thought I would get a track with him. Especially being a listener of his music and how he’s such a talented artist when I found out that he got on my track that was pretty hype. This happened with the help of Danny wolf since he was the one who sent it to him at the time. Plus, it happened so unexpectedly because the track got leaked and people were hitting me up saying, “yo I just heard ur tag on a Juice Wrld track,” so it definitely was a surprise. It’s sad to see him not here with us anymore. He definitely was an individual with a vision and mindset like no other in the industry. Let the legacy he built last forever, R.I.P
