Today we’d like to introduce you to Enny Olamide.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Enny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in a Nigerian household, accounting, medicine and law practice were the only acceptable careers to pursue in our family. Although my true passion was for music and creative arts, I graduated with a degree in banking and finance to honor my family’s wishes but, I quickly realized it wasn’t my calling. In hopes of following my passion for the arts, I joined a musical group. While working with the group we collaborated with a producer who helped us with creating and editing our music videos. When he was editing our content I was really captivated while watching his process. My experience with the producer revealed that I was more of an introvert and enjoyed being behind the scene. After three years together the group disbanded and I landed a position with Sound City TV, a well-known company in Nigeria which opened many doors including a position with IBST media as a creative director.
After five years with IBST Media, I decided to take a chance and bet on myself. I made the decision to leave Nigeria and move to the United States to pursue my interest in the arts. I enjoyed my tenure at IBST Media but it was time to step outside of my comfort zone and broaden my experiences. I attended New York Film Academy and worked as a freelancer for various employers to make ends meet.
Today I’m the CEO and Creative Director of Bricks Group Media, a luxury wedding film company. Back home, I never thought about being a wedding cinematographer. I shot my first wedding in 2015, ever since then, I have been documenting love stories. My strong background in documentary-style production drove my interests to wedding filmmaking.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all! As any other small business owner would tell you, especially in the creative industry, it’s never easy being an entrepreneur. As the CEO, I wear many other hats just to keep my business afloat. One of the biggest challenges for me was deciding whether or not I should quit my 9 to 5 to run my company. At the time, I worried about not having enough bookings to sustain all of my monthly expenses. A year later, it was the best decision I ever made. There are many risks, of course, but being an entrepreneur is having the capacity and willingness to manage a business venture with any of its risks.
Tell us more about the business.
My company is Bricks Group Media, We specialize in a luxury wedding film and travel worldwide. I’m one of the main cinematographers and also the creative director. My passion and love for the camera has always been on capturing a wedding discreetly coupled with my background in the documentary: story-telling, it is a winning combination.
I don’t really have a specific moment or achievement to highlight. I’m proud of where the company is heading and thankful to God for the many times I didn’t believe I could run a business but he brought me through.
My fun and energetic personality are what sets me apart. One of my core values is building and maintaining long-lasting relationships with all of my clients. For every client that books with us, there’s a mandatory face to face meeting to learn more about their personality type. This is important to us because we believe that a wedding film is one of your greatest lifelong investments and creating those relationships help us to better tell your story. Many of our clients book us for their wedding, baby showers, birthday parties, wedding anniversaries and many more. We call them the Bricks Group Extended Family.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t call it to luck rather blessings. God has blessed my business in ways I could have never imagined. When I think about the first wedding I filmed and now to the many doors that have opened, I’m forever grateful. I couldn’t have made it this far without God at the center of it all.
