Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Zubi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am blessed with a diverse and dynamic career that has spanned over five industries. My career includes Fortune 500 companies and amazing Brand experiences such as MTV, Nickelodeon, E! Entertainment and HBO. I was the first Latina on Wall Street, working for Goldman Sachs in the late 80’s. My core is Wall Street which makes a great business foundation I hosted a radio show on Wall Street Radio to share my experience and advice to women Entrepreneurs. I was relocated from NY City in 1993 to start MTV Latino. I have built a thriving career in international business and leadership development.
In 2007, I had some major life challenges and the lessons learned were the base to establish Miami Women Who Rock. I came up with the name when sitting with a group of female friends. One day you are on top of the world, you feel like you have everything- a husband, great son, awesome career flying private Jets to events-then life changes on a dime and the BOULDER falls on you and out of the rubble emerges a new woman-stronger and wiser than before. I created MWWR to serve as a platform to help other women succeed in business, as well as to honor women who were making a difference in the community. It has been a true passion, I invested over a million of my own money to build the brand.
“MWWR has evolved tremendously since our first awards event in 2008, 6 years later I created “Fifty Shades of Pink” and married the Breast Cancer Awareness Cause to our “RockStar Awards”. We now host quarterly giveback events, monthly ‘Power Hour’ networkers and are a health & wellness movement 4,000 strong. The “RockStar Awards” have become incredibly well known and in 2018, we created a Founders Circle which is responsible for identifying potential Honorees and votes to make the final selection. Each award recipient is nominated by the Founder’s Circle and previous award honorees. Two years ago, we were proud to announce the amazing Trish Bell as our first-ever ‘Woman of the Year’ award recipient and last year the legacy continued with Marile Lopez. We are thrilled to announce Lucy Morillo as our 2019 ‘Woman of the Year,’ said Zubi. “As breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women, the ‘Fifty Shades of Pink’ Awards Luncheon is the embodiment of MWWR’s global vision with local missions. Our signature events are where heels and hearts meet to benefit imperative women’s health initiatives.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
“It has not been easy but it has been worth it”, There have been many struggles along the way, so much so that I was inspired to create my Blog, “A Comeback Queen”. Next year I will publish my second book which will share the setbacks, how to overcome life’s challenges and how to “reinvent” yourself.
I had a painful divorce, some health issues and the loss of a multi-million dollar company I was taking public before the Dot Com crash in 2008.
Please tell us about your business.
I am a “CREATIVE” type of leader. My strength is persistence, purpose and tremendous passion for what I do, it’s my “secret sauce” to success. Miami Women Who Rock is an incredibly unique concept.
-SERVICE is our core value, we believe in giving back in all we do.
-We believe if “You Rock Your Health, You Rock the World”. It all starts with health and wellness. Good health is good business.
-We honor exceptional and diverse women for their strength, resilience, heart, compassion and commitment to their families and the Miami community.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
STICK to my strengths! I was known as a “TV Marketing & Sales Guru”, I started to pursue TV production and technology to grow my business and made classic mistakes, grew too fast and got away from my “wheelhouse”.
