Meet Emily Sheila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Sheila.

English & Peruvian but raised in the heat of Miami, Florida. Through word of mouth and her ever-growing fan-base, her name became a staple as one of South Florida’s most talented singer-songwriters. Started performing at various local venues and worked herself all the way up to performing at The Jackie Gleason Fillmore in Miami Beach. As mentioned in the Miami Herald, Emily Sheila was described as a mix between Fiona Apple and Adele with a folky twist. Her sultry styled voice, quick catchy lyrics, and genre-bending melodies provide musical honey soothing for your ears and heart.

Has it been a smooth road?
The best part of this music journey is the experience rather the destination. With every “no” and reject in this music business, it pushes me to go further, and achieve more. The struggles that have come across my path in the years of my music career, it has made me stronger, and better. It is definitely not a smooth ride I’d say, but its a road nonetheless to get me where my dreams are

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
During the day, I teach voice, ukulele, drums, guitar and piano to ages 4-19 years old. When I am not teaching private lessons, I am creating music. I just finished producing and mixing my full-length album called “No Mans Land” which I recorded my drummer Sheriff, Russell on lead guitar, and myself with ukulele, guitar, vocals, and original beats.

I am known for my distinctive voice. I love to use my voice as an instrument and bring out as much soul and depth. I don’t fear the risks of voice cracking or getting a strong belt out on stage, its that rawness of being in the moment when performing. I am inspired by numerous artists ranging from the 1920s to current, I don’t have a particular genre that I stick to, and you never know what style of music is coming next. By not having a genre means no boundaries, therefore creating music is limitless. I think that is what sets us apart the most from other musicians.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
If you really want it, you need to be hungry for it. In this business, it is very important to never give up, and keep going no matter how many times you fall or get rejected. This is the biggest quality any artist should attain if they see this as their lifetime dream

Essential characteristic: support your fellow musicians!!
