Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah and Mikara Bell.
Elijah and Mikara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Mikara Bell, my husband and myself are the proud owners of Elijah Bell’s Funeral Services LLC. We have three beautiful children, Eden (9), Elijah Jr. (7) and Ethan (2). My husband, Elijah Bell started the business in 2007 In a small storefront plaza. We got married in 2010, and from there, we have grown the business to three locations in the state of Florida and one location in Huntsville, Alabama. It has always been our mission to serve our community with excellent service, dignity and respect. Our profession is probably one of the toughest jobs ever! We are confronted with grieving families on a consistent basis. It can be extremely difficult on some days, but we understand that we have been entrusted to help our families create a memorable celebration for the life of their loved one.
We pride ourselves on giving back to our community throughout the year. We host our annual Back to School Giveaway at each one of our locations. This event has brought so much happiness and joy to the members of our community. We give away over 400 bookbags filled with school supplies. We give away laptops, bikes and scholarships. Our local Fire Chief brings a fire truck for the children to paint on, the K9 unit comes and does demonstrations with their dogs. We offer free haircuts, manicures and vision services. Different vendors from the community offer free services for all in attendance. Some of the services include blood pressure testing, mammogram testing, cholesterol screening, glucose testing, mental health counseling and so much more. Everything is totally free at our events, food, bounce house, face painting, train rides and books.
Every December we do an Annual Candlelighting Ceremony, in which we light a candle of remembrance for the loved ones that passed away. That night is filled with tears of hope, love, and peace. We raffle off tablets, TVs, gift cards and much more to the families in attendance. We have different guest speakers that speak about grief counseling, support groups and estate planning.
While conducting business and hosting community-related events, my husband and myself enjoy doing Reading Across Broward at the local elementary schools and Career Day. Being able to pour knowledge into the youth is so rewarding. Raising three children keeps us extremely busy during the week and on weekends. We are proud sponsors of our son’s Little league baseball and flag football league. Serving people and seeing our families that we serve Smile at the end of the arrangement process, health fairs, and giveaways make our heart smile and let us know that we’re doing the right thing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We always put God first in everything that we do.That being said,we have been blessed with dedicated employees and truly believe that without our strong faith and belief in God this would not be possible.
