Meet Edgar Pavars of La Bella Salon in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Pavars.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Edgar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born in Russia and raised in Latvia, I knew from a young age that the hair industry is where I belonged. Since few men were hair stylists at this time in the Soviet Union, instead I became an engineer, completing the necessary schooling and requirements. Even after all the hard work, the lure of the hair world kept calling. I was able to move my family to the United States in the early ‘90s and start the journey of making my dream a reality.

Over the course of my 28 year career, I’ve worked with companies such as Paul Mitchell, L’Oreal, Wella, Aveda and Peter Copolla. From Salt Lake City to Indianapolis to San Diego to Miami, I’ve worked with all types of hair. I can be found working as a master colorist and stylist at La Bella Salon, an Aveda concept salon in Coral Gables. My approach to hair is largely inspired by health and well-being. Beauty is something that is individual and reflects how we want to share ourselves with the world. I believe that wellness needs to be spread throughout all areas of our body and mind – your hair should be no different. I am always evolving and learning new techniques to expand my knowledge in my craft. I am a forever researcher and student of life in order to grow in all areas of spirituality and wellness. I have been able to blend my love for creativity and beauty with my history of formulations and logic. The mixture of these two things gave me a natural passion for creating color and formulating recipes for healthy hair. I take pride in being able to help my clients feel great about themselves by restoring their hair back to a healthy state and together creating beauty. As much as I am a designer of beauty on the outside, I truly believe that being healthy on the inside is just as important. Much of my time spent with clients is in discussing how to achieve that internal health. We all know that a hair stylist does so much more than just hair. Developing a meaningful connection with my clients, building trust, and listening to help them solve a problem is essential. I thrive off being able to be a partner for them within their own personal journey. I believe that life goes full circle with us one minute being the student and the other being the teacher. I love to share my learning’s about hair and life with my clients as I am also constantly developing and growing within my own wellness and career.

Has it been a smooth road?
My road definitely wasn’t a smooth one. I had to leave one life and start another. My number one priority was getting my family out of the Soviet Union in order to pursue a better future. It was hard enough to try and build a life in a new country but to learn the language, make money, find connections all while trying to learn a new profession was tough to say the least. But, I’m happy I did it and learned a lot about myself in the process.
My biggest obstacle in my work life came when I was working in Indianapolis. The salon I was working in decided to create a specialty for each stylist. That meant giving up half of my business. Although, it wasn’t a decision I would have made for myself, I knew I would persevere. Through my initiative to take small steps of improvement and a massive investment in education, I was able to train in New York with a top tier L’oreal team. I jumped on every opportunity to take classes and do hands on workshops with leading color experts throughout the country. This enabled me to perfect my craft and become a true expert in color.

After a life circumstance, I had to reverse everything back again and reintegrate the art of cutting hair.
I found my strength in being flexible. The ability to adjust to every life circumstance the universe presents me. In any time of my life, good or bad, easy or hard, I look to the words of one of my childhood heroes, Nikolai Ostrovsky. To paraphrase my favorite quote, when you look at the end of the day or life, you want to live in a manner where you aren’t painfully ashamed for wasteful hours and years. There is something in these words that stuck with me my whole life and gave me some strength to take major risks and to take these big leaps of faith that ultimately lead me to where I am today.
