Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Camacho.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Edgar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My grandfather, Pablo Camacho was the founder of El Brazo Fuerte Bakery in Miami. The place is an icon in the Coral Way neighborhood, it’s been on that block 40 years, started in 1978. I was born in 1990 and I was pretty much raised in that place. By around the age of 4, I started becoming an expert egg cracker and I remember playing with meringue was the best.
When I was old enough I took an interest in helping out and learning what I could from our awesome family. We have guys there that have been there 15-17 years, these are guys from my grandpa’s era so it was a humbling experience to learn the craft from them. About two years ago I felt confident enough to launch El Brazo Fuerte Bakery in Pembroke Pines and its been a wild ride but two years later and I think we’re the coolest bakery around.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road? In business? Not exactly. Every day is a learning experience and you can’t always have a smooth road. First-year struggles were the same as any new business owner I would guess, worrying about whether we would make it or not was definitely something everyone thought at the beginning. But I can truly tell you every customer counts and with perseverance and lots and lots of patience we built up a nice following in the last two years. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising and if people have nothing but good things to say about you then you should on the road to success.
Please tell us about El Brazo Fuerte Bakery.
El Brazo Fuerte Bakery is an authentic Cuban/French bakery and we specialize in the “Pastelito” aka puff pastry. I’m proud to say this is a third generation company and all of the recipes that I use in my business still today come from my grandfather. I think our quality and our fan base accumulated from over the years makes us a force to be reckoned with, but we still like to keep it mom and pop.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing, every experience was a learning experience and I would trade that away.
