Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Amy Shiotani.
Dr. Shiotani, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I used to be a pianist/keyboardist, working and touring with many known artists as Yanni. And one day on my off time, I was playing golf and injured my disc on my spine. I could not get out of bed for 3 weeks, taking heavy medication, but nothing worked, and it was an excruciating pain. It was horrible. But finally, I tried acupuncture as my last resort. Since I could not even get out of the house, an acupuncture doctor came to my home to treat me. It was a magic. I was able to at least walk to at least go to a bathroom which was impossible before that. I was very impressed with the power of acupuncture treatments. Even I had a successful carrier going on, I have decided to dedicate myself to get back to study acupuncture for 4 years, passed numerous exams. And became a board-certified acupuncturist, and treated over 12,000 people by now. I also have been lecturing all around the world and have Ph.D. in acupuncture and herbal medicine.
From my experience, I understand how hard it is not to be able to go to a doctor when you need the most. So, I have started my company Acupuncture On Demand. We treat a patient at the clinic as well as house calls. We visit hotels, spas, workplace and houses, etc.
I feel very blessed because I get to work with something I love and believe in and I get to make people’s lives better and bring happiness.
Has it been a smooth road?
The worst was when I personally had back pain and my whole world got shut down due to the excruciating pain. But thank god, that was a calling for me to become a good acupuncturist so that I can help others in need.
