Meet Dinah Toussaint of Pearls Hairstyles in Lauderdale Lakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dinah Toussaint.

Dinah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child, I grew up struggling & practically homeless, while my mother was a single mother of three at the time, I’d watch her work so hard to make ends meet. So, at a very young age, it hit me that being successful was my only option to ensure I’d never have to be at the bottom again! At the age of 14, I became obsessed with the idea of working, I wanted to get my hands on anything that would allow me to receive income. I use to apply for jobs but none would ever call me back, literally none! So, instead of sitting around waiting, I told myself why not just use my God-given talent/skills & just profit off it. I can honestly say, without God, hard work, patience & consistency I would not have made it this far.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No it hasn’t always been easy. It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to run a business, especially in moments when you’re feeling discourage because you’re not getting the results that you want.

The main struggles I used to face were when at times I would go into battle with myself trying to decide if I should give up or not… but as my business started growing & the amount of support I would receive from people & clients, I finally understood that this was meant for me & no matter what challenges were thrown at me I i could handle it & that “continuing” was the best decision I ever made.

Pearls Hairstyles – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the 21-year-old stylist that is behind “Pearls Hairstyles” & that has been running it for four & a half years now. I specialize in installing weave. Everyone knows me as the person to go to when you want a very flat and smooth install or when you want your bob to be cut with love!

As a company, the most that I can be proud of would be my work of course & also with how much I’ve grown as a businesswoman. What sets me apart from others is that I’m always looking to try new things & that I’m running my business to my liking & always looking for clues on how to make my clients feel at home while they’re getting serviced.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I feel like success is when you have both the riches & freedom within yourself. By that I mean, we invest so much time to get to the top of the pyramid that we forget to make time for ourself. Which leads up to lose sight of our own happiness or what we’re doing it for. A lot of hard working people can’t even tell you the last time they were genuinely happy or the last time they were in a atmosphere filled with love . It’s like yes, you have all the assets but your mind won’t give you the ability to enjoy any of it because you never took care of yourself mentally. We measure success by having everything so how can one claim to be successful if they don’t have themselves also?
