Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Meseguer.
Diego, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Miami in 2009 to provide a better life for my family. We had visited area and settled in the growing Venezuelan community in the City of Doral. I am a partner in various factories in my native Venezuela. We fabricate furniture, shelving and storage racks. I wanted to stay within an industry I know so I purchased Parsteel. Along with our in-house sales team, I work closely with a large number of re-sellers throughout the South East States.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first obstacle was the recession. With the drop-in warehouse construction, closing of many businesses and the sluggish economy, our sales dropped. We worked hard to control costs, work with existing and new suppliers and increase our service to local re-sellers.
Prior to my purchase of the company, there was no showroom for our products. We reconfigured our building to create an environment that allows us to provide assembled samples of our products. The showroom is a teaching tool when new entrepreneurs come in to outfit their first warehouse. Low inventory was a challenge. With long lead times for our products, we developed a reorder system which has resulted in few shortages during the past number of years.
