Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Moise.
Diane, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started braiding my dolls hair when I was around seven or eight years old. From there it became my mom then school kids during P.E. Period. By the time I got to high school, I decided to get into cosmetology, I joined skills USA and won a few awards first place. I graduated top of my cosmetology class and my teacher recommended I go work with one of her former students who actually is my cousin lol. That was in 2007 and twelve years later, we still work together. We officially became business partners almost six years ago and pushing myself to become better and greater every day is my daily goal. For myself, my family and my clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every day working with new clients is an obstacle, it’s easier once you know your clients but figuring them out takes time. Also, being a mother and having a family is a struggle creating a balance between your work hours and getting home at a decent time to cook and do home with your child is hard when you set your own hours but you don’t always meet them. It has its up and downs.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Well, for me, I’ve tried my hands in everything from braiding to extensions and creative styles but for me, I’m very good with weaving. If you ask my clients I’m known for my short cuts, lol, but also my sew-in. I work in a timely manner and I’m really fast but very neat. Anything involving weave and wigs, I’m on it. I love them all and try my best to perfect it on each head I touch.
When you look back, what are you most proud of?
The proudest moment for me just recently happened when I got the chance to attend a career day. It’s crazy how much of an impact the people who come speak to kids on career day can shift the course of where you see yourself. Back then for me I never had a hairstylist come out to my school and tell me that doing hair is a successful career, but I had the opportunity to do that for a group of your ladies. It felt great!
