Meet Dhaima Chin of Miami Gardens Counseling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dhaima Chin.

Dhaima, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I recently wrote a book called The Social Worker Hustle, which talks vividly about my journey to becoming a social worker. I started as a paralegal with the Guardian Ad Litem program. Working at this program opened my eyes. I was able to see things differently than I have ever seen before. I decided in this position I wanted to extend myself more by helping those in need as much as possible. I also had a passion for helping others, and I just never knew exactly what the title was called until I worked at the Guardian Ad Litem program. I decided to continue my education as a Social Worker, and from that point on I have dedicated my life to this field. It is such a fulfillment to work with those that need help.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been fulfilling, but it has not been a smooth ride. There are many challenges a social worker will face in this field. These challenges will always serve as a learning experience for both the client and yourself. One of the challenges I have faced is that I want to help everyone. However, everyone doesn’t want to receive the help when you extended your hand. Therefore, I have to learn how to back up and let them come to me on their own cognizance.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Miami Gardens Counseling Services story. Tell us more about the business.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the mental health industry is going to double in the next five years. People are realizing that mental health is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Social Worker’s are a vital part in everyday life such as schools, hospital, and now even libraries offering services and a resource when needed.
