Acupuncture, preventative health, and holistic healing was never on my radar until I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Ulcerative Colitis at the age of 16 years old. My parents are both in Allopathic Medicine, both traditional western doctors. I was brought up to believe pharmaceutical medicine/vaccinations/and surgeries were the only way to heal the body. Yoga was sort of my gate-way into this body-mind connection when I was told stress was a trigger for my symptoms. I immersed myself in the study of eastern Asian healing techniques, Aryuveda, Yoga and breath. I started unraveling the thread to find all that I could to heal my own body after being told by my Gastroenterologist I would need to surgically remove my colon.
Quickly I was able to adopt a more wholistic lifestyle with integrating the eastern Asian healing modalities. I started eating in a biologically correct way, and I went to an Acupuncturist. I found the spirit of Traditional Chinese Medicine aided immensely in my healing process. I then went on to study at University Kinesiology to further my understandings of the human physiology. I took ancient philosophy courses to understand the human body as a whole. After University, I went on to study for my Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine and Health Science. I wanted to help people truly understand that they have the power to heal their own body with wisdom that has been tried and true for thousands of years. I started Aurapuncture, my traditional Chinese medicine practice that includes the full spectrum of health, from herbal medicine to ancient modalities such as gua sha, cupping, and tuina. I incorporate vibrational healing through acutonics tuning forks, crystal therapy, and sound meditations.
Through my understanding of physiology and our bio-spiritual nature, my goal with my patients is to help them live in balance, so they are able to live their fullest potential. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been proven to benefit physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual issues. Health is more than merely the absence of disease.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been smooth throughout. When healing from an autoimmune disease, and learning how to live a holistic life in a fast-paced, fast-food modern world is not an easy feat. Food today is not what it used to be. Now with Monstanto, GMO and many pesticides being doused all over the planet, our soil has been compromised and many nutrients are being depleted, effecting our health directly. Not only is it hard to navigate the food climate, we are also living in an “Instant Gratification” culture. We want fast results, fast food, and fast service. Our modern society has the upheld belief that modern medicine is the future and anything that is old is outdated. However, these healing modalities and ideologies have been around for thousands of years because of the power to heal foundationally. Many discredit the power of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and food therapy after one try, not realizing that healing is a process and it takes time for these new changes to fruit. A seed needs watering and nourishment before it even can sprout. There also are a lot of “trends” out there and people only want to partake in the what’s trending now world. Life is not always a smooth road, but if we stay present we can listen to ourselves and stay connected to our truth, our needs, and what we really should be doing to live a vibrant life.
