Meet Dave Magrogan of localgreens in Delray Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Magrogan.

Dave, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From Brookhaven, PA, I am the founder, owner and CEO of Dave Magrogan Group, with headquarters in Pennsylvania and Delray Beach, Florida. I have been recognized as one of the industry’s most innovative business developers, ran a successful chiropractic business, author of entrepreneurial guide “Do It Rhino Style,” and have toured nationwide as a motivational public speaker in addition to over 22 years of experience in concept creation, planning, marketing and business development at all levels of operations and management.

Founded in 2003, the Dave Magrogan Group is a full-service hospitality management company and parent company to five wildly successful restaurant concepts: Kildare’s Irish Pub, Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House, Mas Mexicali Cantina, Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar and localgreens.

Most recently, I teamed up with DMG Chefs Adam Gottleib and Josh Short to introduce the new fast-casual health-focused localgreens, serving as a solution to the desire for healthy meals on the go. The goal of localgreens was to provide high quality healthy fare without sacrificing food quality. localgreens features a tech-forward ordering system that combines the convenience of fast food with the nutritional benefits of fresh local ingredients. The menu, featuring ingredients based on seasonality, will change twice yearly to provide diners with the freshest possible flavors.

Prior to launching localgreens in Delray Beach, my team and I launched Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar in December 2016, a seasonally changing, farm to table concept serving wood fired steak, poultry, seafood and vegetarian dishes and offering guests locally-grown options typically under 500 calories.

While working in restaurants in my early career, I earned a Pre-Med degree from West Chester University in Pennsylvania, and a Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University in Atlanta. I then built two of the largest, most successful chiropractic family practices in Pennsylvania and during this time I explored the connection with holistic nutrition and eventually left to pursue my passion for the restaurant industry.

Starting with my love for Irish cuisine, I opened Kildare’s Irish Pub in West Chester, PA in May 2003, with subsequent locations opening up and down the East Coast, from Chapel Hill to the University of Notre Dame. Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House, our second restaurant concept, opened in October 2006, followed by the March 2010 launch of rock and roll-inspired Mas Mexicali Cantina and most recent endeavor, Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar, which opened the doors to its first location in Glen Mills, PA in 2010, now with 8 total locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. In 2017, we [Dave Magrogan Group] successfully introduced localgreens’ fast-casual concept to the South Florida market, with future locations to open nationwide. I currently spend my time between Chester Springs, PA and Delray Beach, FL.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We honestly have not had many, South Florida has been incredibly welcoming and inviting to both localgreens and Harvest. The only challenge was the fear of Hurricane Irma around the time of our localgreens Grand Opening but we boarded up and everyone remained safe and unharmed. Once the storm passed, we reopened to welcome in the community in need of a healthy meal as they resumed normal life.

Please tell us about localgreens.
What sets us apart in South Florida and our decision to open in Delray Beach was motivated by the community’s health-focused mindset. We wanted to introduce a sustainable menu for people, with the highest of emphasis on quality of produce and products and South Florida has been very receptive to both localgreens and Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar. Our restaurant concepts [localgreens and Harvest] were built to provide a quality experience for discerning families that have become increasingly educated when it comes to conscious eating and living. We work to find the healthiest ingredients available to us through an abundance of local farmers and purveyors. It’s about creating a sustainable menu for people, with the highest of emphasis on quality of produce and products. This is what truly sets us apart.
