Today we’d like to introduce you to Darra Johnson.
Darra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Everybody hates losing or breaking an expensive pair of sunglasses. Everybody also hates HAVING to spend over $200 on a nice pair of sunglasses. I was on a vacation with my friends and broke an expensive pair of my favorite sunglasses at the time… that’s how Dani Joh Eyewear was born. I thought it would be awesome to find some nice sunglasses, in different colors and styles, at an affordable price…. available in one place. I couldn’t find that place, so I created that place. After researching the business, I launched the Dani Joh website on my birthday in 2019, and it truly exceeded all of my expectations. I nearly sold out of all of my inventory on the first day. Today, Dani Joh Eyewear sells exclusive sunglasses at affordable prices. We launched with about 30 designs. Now, we have over 120 designs for men and women.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has NOT been a smooth road. I think any business owner will tell you that being an entrepreneur has its ups and downs. I was adamant about not starting a team until I developed an efficient business system… which takes time. My biggest obstacle is balancing enough time for my business, my job, my family and friends. With most things, you will make time for the things that are important, so that is what I do. Another obstacle is marketing and constantly battling the social media algorithms. You can post a picture every day and nobody will see it, or even less people like it. Lol! Consistency is key. There are days when a picture can get no likes but I’ll sell out of that design that day. I learned that people are watching even when you don’t think they are. Stay consistent. Every day is a learning experience, so it’s cool.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Dani Joh Eyewear?
My business is an extension of me. I have so many layers personally, and professionally and I like a lot of different fashion styles. Sunglasses have always been a consistent fixture in my life. Sunglasses are an integral accessory that elevates any fashion style. You can wear them when you run to the grocery store or when you go to an event. What sets Dani Joh apart from other brands is my customer experience, exclusive designs and the variety of glasses we offer. We treat all of our customers like family. Every order is sanitized, packaged, and shipped quickly. We treat our customers the way we would want to be treated. We also sell exclusive designs that cannot be found everywhere. I use my fashion & lifestyle blog, TheDaniDistrict, to show all of the different ways you can wear sunglasses and why you need them. On top of selling exclusive designs, we offer customers a variety of designs in each color so they can shop until they find a design they like. One of the things I’m most proud of is when customers come back to re-buy a pair of sunglasses they lost or broke on vacation. 🤣🤣
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Faith. My faith and trust in God are the most important ingredients to my success. My consistency, and working on the days I don’t feel like it, comes in close at second.
