Meet Dalton Smith of NPI Productions in Brevard County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalton Smith.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
NPI Productions started from a passion for film making as a kid when I was about 12 years old. Throughout high school, I did a few projects here and there but things really took off in 2010 when I got my first GoPro and started to make videos with several going viral on YouTube.

From here I was about 20 years old and the ball really started rolling when I did my first work with world famous Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach. I started doing trips to different countries making short films and taking photos for advertisements that were used all over the United States and beyond. At this point, I was gaining a lot of local attraction and before I knew it, we had dozens of clients and just started getting inquiries from all kinds of businesses and events.

In 2016 I began working with the office of tourism on the Space Coast and that was the big push that took us from a growing company to handling some of the biggest productions throughout the county. Our productions with the county are endless and include online shows, short films, small businesses and events of all kinds. From this relationship, we have expanded quickly with clients coming in from all types of businesses and have even started touring with some of the largest music festivals in the US.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like most stories, it has been a journey but everything (good and bad) was critical in building us into what we are today. When I first got started, it was a one to two man crew at most but because we kept pushing the NPI Productions crew has eight team members and growing every year. We had a few incidents including a horrible hard drive crash in 2015 and illness for myself in 2016 that really made things difficult to get through.

Overall we have always taken everything one step at a time and we realize that things will happen and you simply can’t make everyone happy all the time. We always strive to keep getting better at our craft and becoming more efficient with each project. As I always say there is never back stepping, only moving up and getting better every year.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The NPI Productions crew is a special breed and I always start out by telling people that we truly do anything and everything. Most of our work is business advertisements, event highlights, and product advertisements. In addition to this, we do action sports, short films, documentaries, weddings, tutorials, social media, live streaming and we also offer talent for on-camera personalities. Many of our early productions were personal projects where I hosted online shows and told a story. We have continued this effort with our clients including the Space Coast where I host dozens of different productions each year.

There are a lot of talented people out there in many different fields but what I think truly sets us apart from the rest is the massive realm of services we offer in one place. The example I always give is a client that came to us with nothing more than an idea and said, “I want you to do everything”. We took that idea and created graphic designs, a website, names for products, video and photo content, built and operated the social media campaign and even did seminars at conventions to display the product.

As I initially said we do anything and everything and always look forward to doing something new that we have never done before. Whether its country music festivals in Nebraska, surf films in Nicaragua, adventure shows in New Orleans or baseball world cups in Florida, we are ready to take on anything that comes our way!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami is an amazing location for content creators and artists of all kinds. Before my business took off, I was frequently shooting around Miami just to get myself out there and document everything I could from the city to the beach. With more people than ever looking for content, this is the time to start digging and simply put yourself out there!

My recommendation to anyone getting started is to start pumping out great content and don’t stop for anything. Consistency is key and in a location like Miami, it’s not hard to find a great niche, build a client base and keep the ball rolling from there. No matter what you do be sure to not get discouraged in the beginning because those who dedicate to the long run and keep working are those who truly stand out among the crowd.
