Today we’d like to introduce you to Crud Band.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
CRUD started off as a bass (Julie) and drum (Mariel) two piece in 2015. We grew up around punk music with our respective bands, Snakehole and Sauna Heat. We were both always into the heavier sounds of doom metal, once Mariel moved back to Miami from Savannah, GA we both linked up and decided to start a two-piece sludge band. The first song we wrote together was called “Steve Buscemi’s Eyes” which ended up being on our later released “Resin” EP. We played two shows together as a two piece before integrating Kris (ex Eztorbo) on guitar into the band. This led us to recording Resin together, honing our sound and adding our vocalist, Andy.
Please tell us about your art.
We’re a four-piece doom metal band that consists of: Julie on bass, Mariel on drums, Kris on guitar and Andy on vocals. There’s always been some difficulty with interviewers or reviewers pigeon-holing us in a specific genre, because we’re not strictly doom, sludge, or death metal–we’re a bit of a hybrid. This stems from our collective musical influences from heavy metal to punk, grind and doom. We have a little of everything, we write our music together and it’s always centered around a certain energy. If it doesn’t move us or make us feel something then we scrap it. All music is cathartic, in a way–ours aims to wake the beast within and soothe collective anxiety.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Exposing people to current events through all types of social media platforms now a days most often leaves people feeling overwhelmed and at times–disconnected. I think this is where the creative community can make a difference to help people feel something emotionally and physically. I think this is why our band is so energy driven when it comes to song writing, by doing this, we can alleviate the numbing feeling created by the surplus of hard news we are faced with today, and maybe even motivate people to turn thinking into doing.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
