Meet Craig H. and Aminta Paiz of We Love Colors in Miami Lakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig H. and Aminta Paiz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After our first year in business, We Love Colors migrated down to Miami in 2003 from Brooklyn, New York. We told people we moved for “warm weather and smiling faces” which is definitely true, part of the problem was our first location was really almost a condemned building with a landlord that promised to install heat, but never came through on that promise. It was all we could afford at the time inside New York City. It felt like we were basically working outside. One day while packing orders shipping to Florida, inside but it was so cold we could see our own breath, we got the idea planted that warmer places existed.

We Love Colors could have moved anywhere as our sales are primarily online. Miami was the clear choice of cities because in our opinion it is the most colorful city in the United States. There also is a free spirit to this town that called us here. We felt Miami is a city where you can create and be free to express yourself. Which fit We Love Colors values of creative expression and inclusivity which is part of our broader mission to be a positive force.

Miami Gardens is the actual municipality within Miami-Dade county where We Love Colors is located. Over the years we have been very happy to be involved with the community. Our team has volunteered, donated and participated in many local events/projects. We value greatly giving back to the community. Having “love” in our name is no accident. Caring is an ideal we strive for. Everyone that comes in contact with We Love Colors will feel this, even if on just a small level.

Has it been a smooth road?
We definitely have had our share of struggles along the way. Our biggest loss was in 2011 when one of our original founders Richard passed away. Richard had an amazing talent and could blend textile dyes by eye to make any color without any assistive tools or technology. Beyond that unique ability he developed from over 40 years of dyeing straight out of high school, he was kind and funny with a quirky personality that everyone loved. His life’s work lives on through We Love Colors.

After 2011, regrouping and regaining the intensity of our motivation took several years. We had to learn our way through another major challenge, trying to hire an outside digital marketing agency to help us revamp We Love Colors brand image. We hired the very best we could find, a San Francisco based company that had Apple, Google, and Facebook as clients. It cost us a couple of years and a lot of money to learn that even if you go with the best talent you can find, you will not necessarily get that talent applied to the work the company provides you.

We realized from that experience that we had to build our own in house creative team. In 2015 when we officially hired Aminta Paiz as We Love Colors’ Creative Director, that’s when we really started breathing life back into what we are doing. Aminta was in Teen Vogue’s list of top global fashion bloggers when our PR rep found her. At the time she was living in Spain, we sent her samples of We Love Colors’ clothing and she fell in love with our brand, so much so she relocated to Miami to join our team.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with We Love Colors – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We Love Colors is different just like everybody else. The sense of sameness comes over many other websites that offer products in the same categories as us. You may find some similar styles of decent quality in 1-6 colors on other websites. But when a person comes across We Love Colors for the first time, they get Woowed! by the love, the colors and the size ranges we offer.

We make all our own colors right here in Miami, Florida. We have over 50+ colors on each and every one of our styles of tights, gloves, fishnets, socks, other hosiery, dancewear, shoelaces, and fabric. We have been in business since 2002 and still, there is nobody in the world doing what we are doing. There are good reasons for it. It is not a simple task, it does not make sense for most other businesses, you have to either really love colors and/or be a bit crazy (which we are in a fun way) or both.

We are all one. We ship worldwide. We support and develop our team from within. We Love Colors is woman-operated. We have a deep appreciation for the broad base of customers we have, ranging from all different genres/shapes/sizes/ages of people. Top global fashion stylists to radically expressive desert festival-goers. We get tremendous positive feedback from real people all over that We Love Colors sparks joy by adding a little more color/expressive range to the personal style.
