Meet Christopher Matthews of Cam Theory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Matthews.

Christopher, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Upstate New York, where I resided with my parents, two older siblings, and a twin sister.

Sports was always a part of my life. I started playing soccer at the age of eight and ran track in both middle school and high school. This was the time when physical activity became an important factor in my life.

At the age of 18, I moved to Florida with a buddy of mine and started life in a new environment. In 2007, my son Jayden was born, and my life became richer for it. I strive to instill in him an appreciation for and an awareness of the importance of physical activity to one’s health and well-being. In January 2009, at the age of 24, I joined the U.S. Army and was soon deployed to the Middle East to fight in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was during this time that I transformed my body by gaining mass and shedding fat. I became the go-to guy among my fellow soldiers who were looking for fitness tips or had questions about their fitness routines.

After my honorable discharge from the Army in 2012, my dedication to fitness kicked into another gear and became the center of my life’s work. I started working as a personal trainer and competed in fitness competitions sponsored by the National Physique Committee (the “NPC”). After competing at the national level and winning numerous awards, I retired from my NPC career and started fitness modeling and sponsorships. I continue to try to take my social media to a higher level.

Once my presence on social media reached a significant level and became noticed by companies seeking sponsors, I decided to start my company, CAM Theory. (“CAM” represents my initials – for Christopher Anthony Matthews.) Spending so much time in and out of the gym, discovered a personal need for clothing that would work both in and out of the gym, but still be comfortable and practical and stylish.

My love for both fitness and fashion, then, became meshed into my venture into entrepreneurship and starting my own business. I want CAM Theory to provide quality luxurious fitness and casual apparel that is as comfortable as it is stylish.

Has it been a smooth road?
The journey has been a fun yet challenging one. As an entrepreneur, everyday is a challenge, especially when your business is driven off of social media. Social media isn’t always on your side when it comes to algorithms and new trends to stay up with. That has been the biggest challenge. Although it is a challenge, it also keeps me on my toes to come up with creative ways to make my content stand out.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cam Theory story. Tell us more about the business.
My business consists of a few different things. When I first started with social media, my goal was to become a fashion/fitness influencer. As I grew my following instead of influencing for companies, I decided to start my own clothing line. I started Cam Theory in November 2017 with little help. With my knowledge of social media, I have recently taken on social media marketing. My goal is to provide businesses and individuals with a helping hand to bring their brand more awareness and more sales. In the long run, I plan on having my own social media marketing firm. I am very proud to have my own brand, not just a clothing line brand, but a brand as an individual. What sets me apart from others is my background in film. I am a digital film major so I create my own content. I have the means to produce high-end content without the high-end price tag attached to it.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, the main push is the big screen. My goal is to be on tv on some capacity. I am working on a cooking show called “Brunch With Cam”, which I plan on pitching for syndication. Being in front of the camera is what really sets my soul on fire. I look forward to moving to LA summer of 2020 and focusing more on acting.
