Meet Chinya Bully of Uni Taste in Coconut Grove and Cutler Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chinya Bully.

Chinya, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m Chinya Bully 22 years young, big family and a proud auntie of ten!!! I’ve been blessed to be able to have been brought up in a close-knit family. We were all raised eating no meat, we barely ate out and cooked almost everyday. Which made me fall in love with cooking for others. Throughout my life, I have traveled a great deal internationally and have always been fascinated by the agricultural mechanisms in the Caribbean and other tropical regions.

Culturally I was and still is raised under the Rastafarian belief which has a huge impact on the way I live my life. Rastafari is why I am ME! I graduated from Florida International University as a former Multicultural Scholar in the Agroecology program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science with a focus in Agriculture along with a certificate in Agroecology. At FIU I worked on a scientific research project developing recruitment strategies for high school and post-secondary Horticulture programs throughout the Miami-Dade district, entitled “Survey on teachers’ perception of students’ perception of plant-focused agricultural sciences”. These experiences ALL molded my entrepreneurial focus and made me the person I am today. I started off by wanting to develop better organic material management strategies that create innovative ways to avoid generating waste.

I was grateful to have the opportunity to get a full fellowship for my Master’s degree but as I was seeking personal growth to my transition to another state I had the drive to do what made me happy and that was to start my business!!! I turned down that opportunity to stay here in Miami and start what is now called Uni Taste. I made my debut at the Coconut-grove Organic Farmers Market and I had amazing feedback and support and knew this was what I loved to do.

What is Uni Taste? Uni Taste brings you a unique blast of Caribbean ITAL prepared with a distinctive style to enhance your nutrition and hug your taste buds! I offer all organic Tropical Juices and Vegan Foods that are high in nutrition and amazing for your health.

My family resides mostly in St. Croix, my mother is from Trinidad and my father is from Dominica but both lived most of their lives in St. Croix. This is where my family has their farm and how I got connected with organic fruits and vegetables. Taking care of your body is our main goal and enjoying it while you’re doing it is the best part of what I do. My food and juices are amazing for your health and also taste delicious.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggle is that you can always do more. It’s been rough to do my business full time and the financial aspect is a lot to learn and get use to. The paperwork, insurance, industrial kitchen, and all the licenses that go into making your business legit is tough work and many people don’t see what you put into making your products every week!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I live by what I do. My business offers unique healthy vegan foods and juices that will make you want to dance. From my no sugar added Tropical Juices like Passion Fruit Explosion, Sour Sop Quench, Basil Sensation and etc. To my Vegan Spicy Mac and raw vegan Cashew De la Creme. It’s always something for you! I’m most proud that I get to touch so many people by doing what I love. I have so many customers that have health problems like cancer, diabetes, etc. that I get to help every week. The feeling is so fulfilling.

When you look back, what are you most proud of?
I’ve been in business less than a year so for now, it has to be helping cancer patients they LOVE my Sour Sop and it also offers numerous health benefits!

Amazing entrepreneur! Spreading her environmentally health conscious delights and information to South Florida. I’m in love with this story and excited to see how she will sweep Miami with her flavorful vegan drinks and italeats!
