Meet Casey Cheek of Casey Cheek Makeup

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Cheek.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been doing hair and makeup my whole life. My grandmother was a beautician for many years and passed on the passion to me.

Immediately after high school I became a cosmetologist and began working in salons.

After a trip out to Los Angeles, I discovered my love for being on film and television sets and decided to pursue a career in makeup artistry. I attended Joe Blasco Makeup School in Orlando.

After some time working as a makeup Artist in Florida, I made the move to Los Angeles. I went on to another Makeup school , Makeup Designory. The education and contacts I received there were very valuable to my career. I began working in Television in many episodic series and finally became a full time artist at E! Entertainment.

After many years there, my husband and I decided to relocate back to Florida to raise our family.

I am now able to have a full and balanced life doing what I love and having a family as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road along the way has been extremely challenging. Work can be very inconsistent. One moment you are swamped and the next you have nothing. Balancing it all out and staying on track monetarily has been a big challenge.

Another obstacle is getting people to take me seriously as an artist. Many people are under the assumption this career is strictly for fun. So making sure I am getting paid what I’m worth is tough.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Casey Cheek Makeup story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a freelance artist that will travel anywhere to practice my craft. I do both Hair and Makeup. I have worked on many celebrities, many red carpet events as well as film and television.

I feel a great sense of accomplishment with all that I have achieved and the passion and love I have for my craft.

I feel a personal connection to everyone I work with and I am invested in every step of the job I am taking on.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am not a big believer in luck. I believe things happen one way or another because of preparation ( Good or bad) and if you work hard enough, things will come your way. Things happen as a result of what you have done in the past leading up to that point.
