Meet Casey Anderson of Flagler Village CrossFit in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Anderson.

Casey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Flagler Village CrossFit started with the vision of creating a space that helps people feel good. We love CrossFit and we think that it’s a great avenue for people to build mental and physical strength.

We chose Flagler Village because it has been a really interesting, artistic and community driven neighborhood for a few years. It’s growing at such a rapid speed population wise and there continues to be tons of new development and support for local businesses and entrepreneurs. Our main goal in opening up was to show up differently than the other gyms in our area, we take pride in partnering with other local businesses to create a collective of health and wellness on a hyper local level.

Rooting ourselves in a community not only focused on fitness but also in conscious living was very important to us too. The majority of our ownership base lives a plant based lifestyle and we wanted to be able to use that as a platform to showcase that strength can be gained and maintained through plant based living. We strongly believe that the more we can break the stigma of “what vegans look like/act like/are” the more of an impact we can make environmentally and on others health. On a personal level, we are constantly pushing the envelope with ways to be greener too.

We are creating a raised bed garden at our home and trying to live a plastic free lifestyle. Recently people are really interested in how to live a more conscious lifestyle, and we want to help with that. We can, and will, make a positive change in Fort Lauderdale and we will be able to do it through our CrossFit gym!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Naturally we wanted to open immediately but we took a step back and focused a lot on design intention. Like I mentioned before, we wanted to show up differently. We weren’t just going to throw stuff in a warehouse and call ourselves a CrossFit Gym. We created something that had a very specific aesthetic not only artistically but functionally too. We wanted to focus on the details and overall presentation the gym so our build out and opening up took a long time. Everything that you see in the gym, aside from the equipment, we built by hand. We cut the wooden bricks piece by piece and put them on the wall, one by one. Everything in here has reason why and we will happily tell you a story about it. The time-consuming part was coupling our detailed design intention and our full-time jobs, opening wasn’t exactly the quickest process. We still haven’t 100% completed everything that we want, but we are in a really great spot now and are excited to keep adding as we go along!

Flagler Village CrossFit – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Flagler Village CrossFit is a high-end CrossFit Studio. We specialize in fitness classes and community development. Our members come in, take their hour-long class, and have a comfortable space to hang out afterwards to reflect on their workout and bond with their classmates. We create an environment conducive for personal and physical growth through CrossFit programming. Our community supports and holds each other accountable and our facility creates a comfortable, non-intimidating environment. My favorite part of having our gym in these areas are the partnerships that we have created.

Local business and entrepreneurship is at the forefront of the MASS district and we are lucky to be able to have gotten a spot here. Aside from that, we created a Green Credit program for our members. Our GCP enables people to get money off of their membership based on if they walk or bike to the gym. This helps people use their fitness outside of the gym as well as makes a positive impact on our local environment.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Creating something that I love with someone that I love, that positively impacts people’s lives and our direct community.
