Meet Carlos Austin-Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Austin-Adams.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
It all started in Elementary school, the broadcast program at F.S. Tucker Elementary School located in Coconut Grove, Florida. In middle school I kept the broadcast trend going by attending South Miami Middle Community School for the Broadcast Magnet program and finally after attending Coral Gables Senior High School and graduating in 2013, I brought my first camera and the rest was history.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a photographer so I try to create art and tell a story through my lens using people, places, or things. I have a Canon 60D and I mainly use a 55 – 250 mm Lens. I feel like I found my purpose in my passion/craft. I always find myself capturing special and happy moments/vibes and it feels good knowing that I’m capturing those moments for someone to view later on and reflect and reminisce on those good times.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think the biggest challenge facing artists today is getting caught up with what others artists are doing and not having their own identity. Comparing myself to other artists was something I struggled with early in my journey. I was basically comparing other people’s “highlights” to my “process” and therefore discouraging myself at some moments.

I finally realized that he/she is going through the same thing I’m going through, e.g., the grind, hustle, setbacks, and frustrations and I realized that everyone has their own road to success. It’s not fair to me to compare my journey to someone else’s. I also feel like as an artist. you should know yourself and be really comfortable to a point where you block out any negative voices, even your own. I’m not saying it’s easy, but the process begins upstairs (Mentally) and from there, embrace the journey.
