Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Watts.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began as a résumé writer in 2018 as a new professional in the field of Higher Education and Student Affairs. I had the opportunity to help my friends and peers who were getting ready to graduate and start their job search by critiquing their résumés, sharing career resources, and assisting with their job search strategy. I would do those things for free until the demand for résumé writing increased as I balanced my career. After obtaining my second full-time job in my career, seeking business advice, and perfecting my résumé writing skills, I set a goal to become an entrepreneur full-time. I hired a business coach in 2019 who specialized in “Firing your boss,” and the rest was history!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Some days it is hard to simply show up for yourself and your business. I even question myself like, “what the hell did I just get myself into?” Sometimes I want to quit and go back to working for someone else until I remember the reason I wanted to become an entrepreneur in the first place. I had moments where I struggled with imposter syndrome, wondered if I was doing the right thing by working for myself and lacked motivation and desire to execute. I have my moments but I know what to do to overcome them.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brianna Watts Consulting and Services – what should we know?
I operate a Career and Business Consulting company. On the career side, we specialize in résumé writing, interview preparation, LinkedIn Optimization, and Career-focused workshops. We also provide support to our clients with negotiation and/or job search strategy. On the business side, we provide consulting services to start-up companies or aspiring business owners and cater to their specific needs. I am most proud most to work with amazing clients who not only trust me but bring me joy with their career success after hiring us. I am also proud of the recognition that our brand received across the country from being selected to cover career segments on news stations to being booked for career and business workshops. Our compassion and desire to see our clients succeed through the end of their job search and as they navigate in their career, providing support and resources until we receive positive results is what sets us apart. We want to see our clients win and truly see the return on their investment. We also invest in ourselves by participating in ongoing training and mentorship opportunities to bring the best services to our clients.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
For me, being connected to God and grounded spiritually is vital for my success. So faith! I always tell people in my circle that entrepreneurship is a spiritual journey. Entrepreneurship is not easy. You need to know who to turn to when you are both at your highest and lowest. There are several qualities that I learned will keep you going, growing, and prospering and they are but not limited to self-awareness, self-discipline, grit, creativity, strong skills, adaptability, positivity, organization, determination, and knowledge.
