Today we’d like to introduce you to Bri Soffa.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I originally started as a wardrobe stylist, doing personal shopping and wardrobe calls for my clients; until I met a makeup artist who really inspired me by the complete transformation makeup can create for someone. After meeting with her she began to mentor me and develop my skills on a personal level until I decided to pursue a career in the makeup industry. I began my experience in makeup artistry working with Dior as a part-timer and later moved to be a business manager at a Laura Mercier Counter. I left that position to work for Mac Cosmetics and really honed in on my specific niche in makeup while still working for that company. Eventually, I left Mac and created my own company, Bri Soffa Makeup Artistry. I’ve been self-employed now for 2 years and am proud of the accomplishments I’ve made and the people I’ve had the great pleasure to work with!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! There have been struggles emotionally, mentally, physically and financially but I’ve kept on pushing forward! That’s what running your own company is all about. You just have to constantly keep learning and striving to do better than before.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bri Soffa Makeup Artistry – what should we know?
I’m a makeup artist who specializes in makeup for beauty and fashion photography. My strongest skill set is with skin work, and that’s what I would assume I’m known for (haha) I think I stand out because I have a niche and I stick to it. And as a makeup artist that isn’t as common, I like to be diversified but especially strong in certain categories!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honesty is so important and showing that you are a REAL and GENUINE person. Arrogance, as well as harshness, isn’t going to get you anywhere. I always strive to stick to my guns when needed but be as accommodating as I can.
