Meet Brad Wells of Alpha Current in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Wells.

Brad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
From my first lemonade stand to selling surfboards out of my parents’ garage to working in the corporate world, and everything in between- I have always been extremely interested in starting businesses, and what makes them grow. During my years at the University of Miami Business School, I was constantly researching different business ideas I wanted to pursue after graduation.

Fresh out of college I started my own luxury real estate practice in New York. When the opportunity arose, I took a job with a Fortune 50 company, while still pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors on the side. After I completed my MBA, I saw an opportunity to create a consulting company based on my business experiences and the increasing need to outsource marketing and management services.

By combining my passion for business with my entrepreneurial training and experience, I started Alpha Current, a company that is able to identify and capitalize on opportunities that will improve infrastructure, strategy, and business development for startups and small businesses.

My initial clients came from my close personal network, and the projects were small-scale technology necessities- such as creating a website or running social media. Since then, our role within companies has evolved into that of a trusted advisor for starting or growing a company.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed that exercising patience is the key to success as an entrepreneur. It takes a long time to see the results from every small bit of effort that you expend to grow a company. But if you show up every day, you will make progress. The progress may not be visible on a day to day basis, but when you look back on weeks, months, or years of progress, it is undeniable.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the most important lessons I have learned in business is that doing the right thing pays off. Even if it involves more effort, less profit, or having to walk away from certain opportunities, taking the high road will always make a difference in the end. When I first started Alpha Current, I quickly realized that you cannot be everything to everybody. By only pursuing client relationships that aligned with my business strengths as well as personal ethics, I am able to focus on jobs that create true value.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Alpha Current story. Tell us more about the business.
Alpha Current’s goal is to make entrepreneurs and small business owners more successful and to let them have more fun with their business. We have effectively grown numerous small businesses and startups by capitalizing on business development opportunities and enhancing the efficiency of operations.

All of our clients provide a service or product that can make a positive impact in multiple ways: their customers, their employees, the community, and the environment, as well. To be a good consultant, we must not only care about incomes/expenses but all of the stakeholders involved. Collaborating with businesses that put a strong emphasis on things that relate to the triple bottom line allows us the opportunity to grow in a manner that’s sustainable for everyone.

We have the business experience. That’s the minimum required. But the things that set us apart are being adaptable, ethical, and remaining positive. It goes a long way.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When you put yourself in the right position and you’ve prepared yourself, it looks a lot like “luck” to those who weren’t prepared or in the right position. I believe you make your own luck with hard work and perseverance.
