Meet Ashley Rutherford of Ashleyrford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Rutherford.

Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been doing photography, web and graphic design since I was 12 years old and videography since I was 14. I’ve and always wanted a career in the field. As I got older, those dreams didn’t seem to stay because I always worked under someone. I still work under people and it sucks the fun out of the work.

Nowadays, there is YouTube and Patreon — platforms in which people can express themselves and be who they are and show their own hardwork.

Although Youtube is not what it used to be, it’s something I wish was the norm for independent, creative people. I wanted to start Youtube, but I don’t know if I still have the drive for it.

I have many artistic passions but half the time, I’m not sure my work is going to be seen as something incredible.

I don’t have my own business, I don’t own a successful anything. I am still a struggling artist who isn’t confident in her own work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is a consistent struggle. If it isn’t the doubt of my art, it’s the fact that I am always stuck in some horrible boring desk job feeling like I am not being challenged or working on my art or a retail job selling someone else’s dream.

Tell us about Ashleyrford – what should we know?
I don’t own a business. I have projects. A recent project I started was at the end of August this year. I created a website, http://www.people-person.tumblr.com.

It’s premise is to follow someones ordinary day and take candids. I would give them an option to meet wherever they want and do whatever they do on a day-to-day basis and just shoot. There is even an option to have a “music video”.

It’s been up for almost a month but no one has contacted me. I am not sure if it’s because of the hurricane fiasco or not enough media sharing or no one is interested in being real. (Since my gimmick is no makeup, glam, selfie shots. Just you, as you are.)

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think I need more drive and confidence. Maybe then something will happen.

Pricing:

  • $30 – Music Video shoot (music and scene of your choice)
  • $100 – Full package (Whatever you want to do)
