Meet Asher Rost of Kid Surge in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asher Rost.

Asher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Rutgers University graduate with a B.A. in Communication. In 2005, during my senior year in college, I worked for a mobile-based kid’s fitness company in New Jersey where I learned how to facilitate soccer, karate and fitness classes.

In 2006, I became a Certified Personal Trainer and began training adult, teen, and youth clients. In November 2008, I established Aplus Trainer to provide enrichment programs for kids that instills fitness, sports, nutrition, and positive character development for preschool and elementary students. In 2012, I became a certified Physical Education Teacher and taught at Ben Gamla and Central Charter schools in 2015.

In May 2015, I collaborated with a Professional Song Writer and Recording Artist to create original instructional music to enhance the program with visual and auditory learning and re-branded the company with our new name, KID SURGE. The company began with Sports and P.E. classes and added Dance, Zumba, In-House Field Trips, Special Events, and Special Needs programs in 2016. During that same year, our Hip Hip Edu program was approved by the Arts Education Directory and Children’s Service Council of Broward County.

My certifications include: Florida Certified Physical Education Teacher K-12, National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Youth Exercise Specialist, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America Certified Group Exercise Instructor.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Some challenges we face as a business are: parent registrations for parent paid programs, lack of funding for facility paid programs, employee turn-over and becoming an approved vendor for multiple school districts.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KID SURGE – what should we know?
KID SURGE provides kids fitness programs for kids ages 2 1/2 to 12 years old. All our programs have fitness at the core of its curriculum and uses music, some which are original and instructional to keep kids engaged, while also fostering visual and auditory learning simultaneously. We specialize in sports, dance and Zumba, but also provide Hip Hop Edu., Special Needs programs, Special Events, Field Days and more.

We are most proud of our expansion: adding multiple programs in less than 3 years, offering 6 total programs, and in the process of creating 2 more. Also, adding new facilities each year, while retaining our original locations.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My passion for kids fitness and making a lasting difference in kids’ lives inspires me.
