Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando Hernandez-Rey.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been an infertility specialist in Miami since 2006. A few years ago I saw the need for a different kind of practice. A place that offered the best available IVF technology, but in a very personal, boutique like setting. So I started Conceptions Florida. My wife has more than twenty years of experience in health care and together we set out to find the best space, build a calming and comfortable office, and then find the most caring staff in Miami. We also chose to invest in a new technology called LifeAire, which removes VOCs and pathogens from the air and increases pregnancy rates by 20% or more! We know that patients are investing not only their money, but their time, hopes and dreams in to the IVF or egg freezing process. So we wanted to offer a technology that no one else in Florida and only a handful of people in the country have in order to give them the absolute best possible chances of creating a family. Hundreds of babies later, we are thrilled.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever smooth. But we have had a singular focus on our goals of offering the best technology and treatments- IVF, surgery, genetic testing and more- as well as the best service for our patients. Focusing on those two items makes it easier to guide yourself when there is a challenge.
Please tell us about Conceptions Florida.
Conceptions Florida is a full service infertility practice. We built a state-of-the-art embryology lab where we perform IVF, egg freezing, genetic testing and more. For women who do not need or want IVF, we pride ourselves on offering advanced surgical procedures, including for endometriosis and fibroids. We are the only fertility practice in Miami that offers robotic surgery, with faster recovery times and less scarring. Whenever we can, we give patients the chance to have procedures done in the office instead of at a hospital. Many procedures can now be done more quickly and inexpensively in our office, where we have two operating rooms. We are most proud of the advanced technology we have in our lab, including the LifeAire system. As the only lab in Florida to have this proprietary air filtration system, we feel confident that we are giving our patients the absolute best chance of getting pregnant. In fact, LifeAire has been proven to increase pregnancy rates and decrease miscarriages by protecting vulnerable embryos from pathogens in the air.
Finally, we run our practice on solid principles: we offer personal care, a compassionate setting, we listen to our patients, and we treat all people equally.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That is a tough one! It would probably be my father waking up extra early to take me to my job as a phlebotomist because I was too young to drive myself yet. But I always knew I wanted to be a doctor and managed to get a job at a local hospital. Thanks to my parents’ sacrifices, I am where I am today.
