Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Dupar.
Ariana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I am a Physical Education Professor and a Gymnast coach.
I used to be a gymnastic, studying Physical Education, looking for something different when heard about something called “pilates”, when I was participating in a competition.
As soon as I arrived, researched about it.
Since that moment, I have never stopped to do and Practice Pilates.
I did my first Pilates certification in 2004 when I was 21 years old, opened my first private Pilates Studio in 2007 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In 2011, I moved my studio to a bigger space to convert it in a gym, offering Spin, power plate, yoga, salsa classes in Addition to Pilates.
In 2014, I sold it to move to Us, Florida. My husband had a business opportunity that he could not refuse.
I was looking to update my certifications in the US. So, I enrolled into a Pilates Master Program with Lolita San Miguel, a Joseph Pilates disciple, becoming me into a Second Generation Pilates Teacher and a Pilates Master Trainer to teach teachers to help spread the authentic and original Pilates Method. I am also certified by the Pilates Method Alliance.
I did a lot of different certifications to complement my knowledge of Pilates, such as TRX, Spin, Barre.
I taught in a lot of Pilates Studios in Doral, Coral Gables, and Pembroke Pines, but I needed to manage my own schedule since I got pregnant, this was how I opened Ariana Dupar Pilates in Doral, Miami in February 2018.
Being pregnant, I opened a Pilates Group for moms to be to prepare our bodies for delivery and postpartum, I practiced pilates until the day before to give birth and came back when my baby was 40 days old, and created a new class that I called ” MAMILATES”, it means Pilates+babies. It is a class for moms who want to workout safety to avoid diastasis or heal it and don’t have anyone who takes care of their babies. Moms can bring their babies. Babies can take a nap or do pilates with mama. Currently, my daughter is ten months old and enjoys a lot to attend to classes. And loves to play every day on the machines while I teach my classes. Maybe in the future, she’ll follow my steps into a healthy lifestyle.
Meanwhile, I teach Pilates in groups, using the reformer, balls, arc, rings, the barre Ballet and so on.
Pilates started as a Recovery Method, healing people with injuries or to recover of a surgery. it can be practiced by men, women, teenagers, seniors, pregnant women, etc., because Pilates classes are in a small group or one by one, to improve posture, flexibility, to gain strength, and it always is taught by an Instructor. Never a client does Pilates by himself without a direction.
I work on a multiple sclerosis disease, a breast cancer recovery, back pain and pinched nerve, a sciatic, a hip surgery teaching Private Classes until that client is ready to take pilates in a group. Also, I teach private lessons to athletes and dancer who want to improve their body condition to get stronger and more flexible.
In my group classes, clients take Pilates in groups with five spot, because I love to teach in small classes to cue and assist every single client that attend my class. I plan every class in advance to give to each client an optimal experience.
I love Pilates because you never stop learning, even having more than 15 years of experience, the method continues to surprise me and teaching me new stuff and tools to improve my classes.
As Joseph Pilates Said, it is important to have the three p’s to be a good teacher, Practice, Patience, and Perseverance. My mentor Lolita San Miguel always adds an additional P: Passion.
I can say, I could find all of them throughout my career that I applied that philosophy to my daily life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since I moved to the US in 2015, the road has been tough.
First, I had to learn the language, in a city where nobody speaks English, and all of the jobs that I got, owners hired me to tall and teach in Spanish. Can you believe it? I was hard to learn if you never talk in English. But then, I relaxed and thought that my native language was opening my new doors.
Second, since I had a lot of experience and certifications, I had to start since from the first level positions until gaining the trust of owners.
Being a foreigner taught me to be humble and patient. It is paradoxical. Isn’t it?
I do not regret of every step that I did in this country and I am thankful for all the teachings that I got here.
Ariana Dupar Pilates – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ariana Dupar Pilates is a Private Studio. It does mean, classes are in reduced groups to give a better service.
In my group classes, clients take Pilates in groups with five spots, because I love to teach in small classes to cue and assist every single client that attend my class. I plan every class in advance to give to each client an optimal experience.
I teach to pregnant women and new moms.
In our Postpartum classes, moms can bring their babies. That class is called Mamilates.
Also, I teach to the community. Ikea, Publx and City of Doral, called me to teach free classes to neighbors.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think if I do everything with passion and love, I can achieve success and be a successful professional.
I always look for new things, to grow my background and if I do not know something, I investigate it.
A key to achieving success is continuing education, researching, and humility. Because we are human, I do not know everything, we can make mistakes, but we can learn, too.
If we think we are the best, we aren’t anymore since that moment that we thought be superiors.
Work hard, be patient and results will come to you.
I love what I do. I do what I love.
