Thanks for sharing your story with us Antoine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I arrived at where I am today by faith. I know that may sound a little cliche to many but in my case, it’s the truth. For the sake of time, I’ll spare you all the details of me graduating HS with a 1.4 GPA, how God saved my life more times than I can count and the few months, I was a law school graduate sleeping in a Walmart parking lot with my wife and three kids. I am where I am today because I had the faith (or insanity, lol) to leave my $60K/yr job and start my own law firm with no clients in sight. I combined my entrepreneurial experience with the limited legal knowledge I had, mixed in a little grace and was making at least $10K month within 90 days. Right now, I’m in year three of my firm, I have three attorneys and two paralegals working for me and I’m proud to say that my firm is a tremendous blessing and is providing a level of wealth for my family and I that most people who knew me growing up never would have imagined possible. I’m literally living a dream today and I give all the glory to God!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road but that’s wasn’t an expectation of mine anyway. There’s not an intelligent trailblazer in the world who expects to forge a new path and enjoy the luxuries of a smooth road. There were months where my own doubts and self-limiting beliefs caused me to make mistakes financially that almost got my family evicted on at least two occasions. My family didn’t make it easy for me either. Many of them second-guessed my decision to leave everyone I know and start a brand new life in Florida. Many of them told me I was crazy and should just get a job. The worst was when I barely got any phone calls at all from my family for months because they all assumed I was struggling and would try and ask them for money. And when we did speak, there were always these Freudian slips where they would just put it out there that they thought I had lost it completely. If it wasn’t for my wife and her unwavering faith, there were many times where I almost gave in to the voices of the naysayers and gave up. Some other struggles weren’t so bad though. For example, I had to learn how to think like an entrepreneur, budgets like an entrepreneur and hustle like an entrepreneur. This was a big adjustment. If it was to be, it was up to me. My wife hasn’t had to work since I started my firm and there were times where the pressure of our situation seemed too great for me, but I always took comfort knowing God wouldn’t give me more than I can bear.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
At my core, I’m an entrepreneur. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that my primary specialties are business law and entertainment law. However, I own a general practice law firm with attorneys who assist with some of the more popular practice areas like Family, Criminal, Immigration, Intellectual Property and all types of Civil Litigation.
What I enjoy the most is my work as a business consultant and minister. As a business consultant, I have a service called Dr. Turnkey where I help business owners “turn the key” from owning a job to owning a business so that they can have more time, energy and money to live the lives of their dreams. As a minister, I help truth-seekers eliminate the “virus of limitation” and unleash the dunamis power of God within.
What sets me apart is that I don’t know of too many other lawyers who treat their industry like a ministry as much as I do. Clearly, you can see that I incorporate my faith into everything I do, therefore, I alternate between hats as the Spirit leads and my clients really appreciate that.
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
None. I don’t believe in luck. I believe in cause and effect; sowing and reaping. Success is where opportunity meets preparation. Everything I’ve harvested is because I’ve sown the corresponding seed. It’s not luck when an apple seed produces an apple tree. So, when the unemployed single mom who my wife and I used to babysit for got a job as a referral coordinator at a major law firm, who do you think she sent the cases to? That’s not luck. It’s called karma.
