Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Garcia.
Anthony, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
So the story goes about six years ago I had the passion to open a restaurant. Both my Grandparents were owners of small restaurants back in the day. I can always remember the fascination I had walking into a kitchen. I was young and I didn’t know if was able to cook. As I got older I started to put my skills into play. I was always barbecuing at every party, event or wedding lol. I was the go to guy! When my Grandparents passed they both had left the Grandchildren some money. It wasn’t much but I thought hey here is my chance to open a Restaurant.
Well, my dreams were at a standstill when I finally found out how much it would be to open. Wow!! I’m short! So I saw that Food-trucks were up and coming and I was like hey this is my shot. I bought that food truck and never looked back. I struggled out on the corners of every street avoiding someone pulling up telling me to leave. I found out quickly that this was not going to be easy. I was married at the time with a child at that time Sophia Madison Garcia and I was like this is impossible. I had some help in boosting my business. I was on the corner of 107th and Kendall as I was every weekend. My truck was approached by a few rather large gentleman. They proceeded to order some of my menu items. These guys looked like bouncers. lol. When I asked one of them said that is Burger Beast aka. Sef Gonzalez. Who did I say? He replied Burger Beast. I had no idea who he was. I looked him up thanks to google and found out he was an influencer or blogger.
He ate my food, blogged about it and he enjoyed my food. From there, things just took off. I joined His events and King of Racks was up and running. I also joined the Food Truck Invasion and was traveling around to all kinds of events. From there I took my Food truck and helped open The Wharf in Downtown MIAMI. I was the Food concierge of the sort. I brought in all the culinary talent to this location. I was running all the corporate and private events. We also are one of the few food trucks that choose time to participate at the South Beach Food & Wine Festival. You can also catch us at The MIAMI Open, The MIAMI International Boat Show. We also have a permanent location at The Wynwood Market Place with another to follow soon.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, not at all. The fact that as the business owner you are everything. The chef, register, inventory, janitor. Working for some of the promoters you just felt like you were not an owner. You needed to play by their rules. Constant fluctuations of event prices etc.. Small business is affected and some of them just didn’t care.
Please tell us about business.
Well, I do everything. Well, not everything but most. I have a great team behind me. MY FAMILY. Without their help, this would have been impossible. We are known for our Gourmet BBQ. BBQ with a twist. Our sandwiches are piled high with slaw and egg. Our Ribs are award winning. I am most proud of all the obstacles I have had to overcome and are still overcoming. I have started a new chapter in my life and I’m ready to take on the world. What sets us apart from the rest is our passion for what we do. We take our time with our meats and our smoke process. Slow n low. We love fresh food.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan for the future is a brick n mortar. I want to take my brand and concept to a different level. What we at King of Racks have coming will blow some minds. I won’t divulge much but get ready to pair some great Beers and Wines to our amazing menu selection.
