Meet Anthony Bruno of Andy’s Live Fire Grill and Bar in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Bruno.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Anthony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I opened Anthony’s Runway 84 in 1982 and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in 2002. After I sold Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza and with Runway still going strong I was looking for something new. I became interested in Santa Maria style grilling and came across a company called Grill Works USA who made these AMAZING grills and I knew it was something I wanted to cook on. When the local landmark Ernie’s BBQ went out of business I decided to purchase the property to create a home for this amazing grill. You could say I purchased the restaurant space for the grill rather than the grill for the restaurant.

I named it Andy’s after my late father who many called Andy. We center our cooking around our Santa Maria style live-fire grill with adjustable surfaces to roast a variety of meats, seafood and vegetables over varying degrees of fire. Our featured Tri-Tip for Two is the signature dish of the Santa Maria style grilling and a must have for those who want the full Andy’s Live Fire Grill experience. I wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere with a dining room downstairs and a rooftop bar and lounge with weekly live music and events. We pride ourselves on quality ingredients with fresh local fish, top quality meats and homemade nightly specials like chicken pot pie. It’s a feel-good place where you can enjoy great food and grab a beer or one of our many craft cocktails.

Has it been a smooth road?
When we purchased the property we knew it needed work but it ended up taking two years before we could open.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The thing I like most about Fort Lauderdale is the weather and the thing I like least about Fort Lauderdale is the weather. Really though, I grew up in New York but I’ve been in Fort Lauderdale for almost 40 years and there is nothing I don’t love about my city.
